Senior Software Engineer, Growth & Platform

Cubby BedsDenver, CO
$184,000 - $223,000Hybrid

About The Position

We're Cubby, a profitable, bootstrapped medical technology company with approximately 50 employees at our Denver HQ. We make smart safety beds for children with complex medical conditions, and our product is covered by insurance nationwide. Revenue has grown significantly over the last five years. This is a unique opportunity to be our first dedicated software engineer, building the engineering foundation from the ground up. You will be responsible for production applications and workflows that drive conversion, the underlying systems, and the data infrastructure. You will have a wide surface area, shaping the architecture, choosing the technology stack, and owning the entire development lifecycle. Our current systems rely on a combination of Salesforce, Shopify, Typeform, Talkdesk, Ortto, Kustomer, and various integration tools. The next phase of growth requires building new applications and workflows, such as patient portals, voice agents, customer-facing applications, and AI-assisted operational tools, to enhance customer conversion and expand our reach. A strong emphasis is placed on leveraging AI tools, with Claude Code or equivalent expected to be a daily accelerator. You will ship production applications and workflows, establish engineering foundations (repos, CI/CD, environments, observability, compliance), and implement the data warehouse and pipelines under the guidance of our fractional Head of Data Engineering. This role reports to the Head of Product & Technology, with close collaboration on scoping user needs and defining requirements. You will also work closely with the CEO, VP of Growth, and business systems analyst, and collaborate cross-functionally with operations, business development, customer experience, and sales.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience shipping production systems end-to-end.
  • Experience building and shipping production applications that integrate multiple SaaS platforms or data flows in a regulated environment (healthtech, fintech, PCI/payments, SOC 2, identity/auth, banking, insurance, or crypto).
  • Comfortable implementing data pipelines and warehouse work (SQL, Python, dbt, ELT) under senior data guidance.
  • Strong skills across both engineering foundations (GitHub, CI/CD, observability, deployment, environments) and the application layer (TypeScript/React, API design, AI tooling).
  • Fluent in working with AI coding tools (Claude Code or equivalent), using them to multiply output.
  • Based in Denver or willing to relocate.
  • In-person collaboration with the team is important.

Nice To Haves

  • Founding engineer experience at a YC fintech, insurtech, or healthtech company.
  • Senior/staff engineer experience at a Series A-C company in a regulated industry.
  • Background in HIPAA, SOC 2, payments, checkout, or PCI engineering.
  • CS degree is preferred but not required; practical shipping experience is valued over certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ship customer-facing applications that improve insurance conversion, including Patient Portal v1, Voice Agent v1, and DME Portal v1 (search-driven, role-aware), and revenue cycle integrations. The primary metric for success is the lead-to-bed-sold conversion rate.
  • Replace Typeform with a custom intake system that routes data directly into the data warehouse, aiming for faster lead-to-quote turnaround and reduced drop-offs in the DME funnel.
  • Establish the data warehouse and engineering foundations, including a HIPAA-compliant warehouse, ELT pipelines for Salesforce and Shopify, and modeled core entities. This includes setting up repositories, CI/CD, environment separation, Drata, and observability. Tooling choices are yours, with guidance from the fractional Head of Data Engineering.
  • Ship the first AI-assisted revenue workflow, such as AI-assisted quote review or DME activation alerts.
  • Set the AI standards for the organization, including monitoring, documentation, fallback logic, and quality controls, ensuring all production AI workflows meet these standards.

Benefits

  • Total Cash Compensation: $184,000 - $223,000 (base + 12.5% performance bonus)
  • Stock options / equity ownership
  • Health, dental, vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO and sick/wellness hours
  • 12 paid holidays, paid Volunteer Day, and a Powder Day
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Hybrid work model (Mon-Wed in Denver HQ; optional remote Thu-Fri)
  • Mac, standing desk, premium office setup
  • Work-from-home stipend
  • Paid parking
  • Annual staff retreat
  • Stocked kitchen and bimonthly team lunches at Denver HQ
  • Growth opportunities at a startup with a life-changing mission
