About The Position

Oath is a strategic giving platform that helps donors direct contributions to races and causes where they can have the greatest impact. The company has directed over $150 million while protecting donor data. Oath is seeking an experienced full-stack software engineer with back-end depth to lead development of fundraising tools and administrative capabilities for partner organizations. The role involves owning major product areas from technical design through launch and iteration, and collaborating with product and design to shape solutions. Oath describes its team culture as anchored in transparency, empowerment, and optimistic action.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, much of it on full-stack web applications, with back-end depth.
  • Strong Python skills and production experience building and operating APIs.
  • Solid PostgreSQL data modeling, query tuning, and migration experience.
  • Experience with background job queues and asynchronous processing, such as Celery and Redis, including retries, idempotency, and debugging failed jobs.
  • Production experience with payment APIs, ideally Stripe, and reliable third-party integrations involving webhooks, reconciliation, and vendor outages.
  • Hands-on experience with authentication and role-based access control.
  • Working proficiency in TypeScript and React sufficient to ship full-stack features independently.
  • Experience monitoring and debugging production systems, and comfort participating in on-call.
  • Track record of owning features end to end on a small team and shipping iteratively.
  • Effective use of AI coding tools while understanding and owning shipped work.
  • Clear communication with non-engineers and willingness to give and request direct feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with FastAPI; Django or Flask experience is transferable.
  • Experience scaling PostgreSQL in production, including connection pooling, replicas, or high availability.
  • Experience with Auth0 or a similar identity provider.
  • Experience with Next.js and Vercel.
  • Integrations with charitable giving or political ecosystem technologies such as Chariot or NGP Van.
  • Experience building features on LLM APIs such as the Anthropic Claude API.
  • Experience with transactional email at scale, such as SendGrid.
  • Redux Toolkit experience, including migrating from older Redux patterns.
  • Experience with rate limiting and abuse prevention.
  • Experience in political technology, fundraising, or fintech, especially handling traffic spikes around deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Own partner fundraising tools, administrative dashboards, and their supporting services from technical design through launch and iteration.
  • Design and build secure, well-tested Python APIs, data models, and integrations.
  • Operate data ingestion pipelines for election and campaign data from vendors, APIs, flat files, and scraping jobs, and maintain data accuracy.
  • Build and maintain reliable payment and vendor integrations, including Stripe and Chariot, and lead or support integration migrations.
  • Evolve Postgres, Redis, and background jobs to improve scalability and reliability ahead of high-traffic election moments.
  • Monitor shipped systems, participate in on-call, lead incident response for owned areas, and conduct blameless follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with product and design, surface tradeoffs early, and suggest simpler solutions where appropriate.
  • Conduct thoughtful code reviews, mentor engineers, and improve team conventions, including those for AI-assisted development.

Benefits

  • Equity package
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) matching
  • Flexible PTO
