About The Position

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service. We are looking for a talented Software Engineer with exceptional C++ skills to work on our core Flight Framework that flies our aircraft! This is the framework that powers all the software systems on the aircraft.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering and 7+ years of full-time experience. An advanced degree and 5+ years industry experience will also be considered.
  • Expert knowledge of C++ with demonstratable knowledge of multi-threaded systems.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming methodology, multi-layered system architectures, and creating clean APIs, APIs that are independent of the OS (operating system).
  • Experience with modern integrated development environments and debuggers.
  • Willingness to be flexible and learn new technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with or knowledge of DO-178, particularly writing low-level requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of distributed computing frameworks/IPC.
  • Demonstratable proficiency in SW development in a regulatory environment is a plus.
  • Experience using git version control.
  • A positive attitude and a passion for aerospace!

Responsibilities

  • Designing clean C++ APIs used by all of the numerous computers on the aircraft.
  • Improving the distributed computing framework used by all the computers.
  • Work with system engineers to decompose equipment-level requirements into high-level and low-level software requirements in compliance with DO-178C.
  • Design, implement, and test flight-critical software components with C++.
  • Integrate these into the larger system.
