About The Position

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Senior Systems Engineer to join its flight research team. This role offers the opportunity to interact with key teams and disciplines across the company, providing technical guidance and coordination for Autonomy Systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the architecture, integration, and life-cycle success of the autonomy system, encompassing requirements management, development, certification, and entry into service. This position involves leading the development and certification of systems and sub-systems, ensuring successful design validation and verification, and working closely with Software, Hardware, and GNC teams to meet avionics system requirements. A strong understanding of aircraft systems, system development, and industry-specific certification processes is essential, along with the ability to comprehend complex system design trade-offs. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of aerospace or related industry work experience
  • Solid understanding of aircraft systems, system development, and industry-specific certification processes
  • Positive attitude towards the project
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to self-manage and learn new skills
  • Forward thinking and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment
  • Must meet US export control compliance requirements and qualify as a “US Person” (US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and certification of Avionics and lighting systems and sub-systems
  • Ensure successful design validation and verification
  • Work with FAA Engineers and Joby DERs to ensure compliance with federal airworthiness regulations
