About The Position

At SwitchDin, we’re building the software powering the energy transition. Our platform enables utilities, commercial energy users and technology partners to integrate and manage renewable energy, battery storage, electric vehicles and distributed energy resources at scale. From virtual power plants to microgrids, our technology helps create a cleaner, smarter and more resilient energy system. We’re an Australian technology company with a growing international presence across Europe and North America, and we’re looking for a highly organised Product Operations Manager to help our Product team operate at its best. About the role We design and deploy edge gateway hardware that connects distributed energy resources – solar inverters, batteries and controllers – to the grid and to our cloud platform. We’re looking or an embedded engineer to own our edge device from the metal up: the operating system, the device drivers, the security stack, and the tooling that gets units into the field reliably. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of embedded Linux, hardware integration, and energy technology.

Requirements

  • Strong embedded Linux experience, ideally with Yocto or a comparable build systems
  • Proficiency in C and Python (or similar) for device-level and tooling work
  • Hands-on experience with device/hardware integration and industrial protocols such as Modbus
  • Solid grounding in embedded/device security: secure boot, TPM, encryption, PKI/certificates
  • Networking fundamentals on Linux devices (VLANs, NTP, DHCP/DNS, connectivity management)
  • Comfort debugging real hardware in the field and reasoning about systems end-to-end
  • A pragmatic, ownership-driven approach and clear communication with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in energy, DER, solar/battery, or smart-grid technology
  • Familiarity with IEEE 2030.5 (CSIP-AUS) or similar smart-inverter standards
  • Experience shipping and supporting hardware at scale in the field
  • AWS IoT / edge-to-cloud connectivity experience

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a custom Linux OS (Yocto-based) for our edge gateway, including the image build pipeline, over-the-air update mechanism, and release process
  • Develop and maintain device drivers for inverters and battery systems (Modbus and similar protocols), including register mapping, discovery, and fault handling across multiple manufacturers
  • Own device security – secure/measured boot, TPM, disk encryption, PKI and certificate management (including IEEE 2030.5)
  • Implement on-device and cloud-driven network configuration (VLANs, NTP, access-point/hotspot setup, connectivity watchdogs and recovery)
  • Build and improve field provisioning and commissioning tooling used to deploy and hand over devices
  • Diagnose and resolve issues on a live deployed fleet, working closely with field and customer-success teams
  • Maintain CI/build tooling and keep the platform secure through SBOM/CVE scanning and vulnerability remediation

Benefits

  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements
  • Ongoing learning and development, including AI capability development
