Senior Software Engineer, Collision Avoidance
About The Position
Nuro is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on Collision Avoidance to contribute to their Parallel Autonomy System and Collision Detection System. This role is critical for protecting passengers and other road participants by addressing the 'unknown unknowns' in autonomous driving. The engineer will be challenged to achieve high accuracy under strict latency requirements, where every millisecond counts. The team works on a variety of problems including ML-based perception across multiple sensor modalities, accurate estimation of object velocity and acceleration, onboard latency optimization, and developing tools for large-scale data curation.
Requirements
- BS in relevant engineering fields, such as CS, EE, or applied mathematics.
- Strong coding skills in C++.
- Experience deploying software in robotics products.
- Willingness to sweat the details and strive for precision in your work.
Nice To Haves
- Deploying ML models in edge environments.
- Developing state estimation algorithms for tracking applications.
- Optimizing architectures to explore the accuracy vs. compute tradeoff.
Responsibilities
- Partner with a tight-knit group of engineers who focus on collision avoidance.
- Participate in the design and implementation of a system that spans perception, planning, and control.
- Contribute to designing the validation methodology in order to validate a system that is required to perform at extremely high recall and precision on exceedingly rare events.
