About The Position

As a part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Game Development & Future Technology (GDFT) organization is leading the cloud gaming and development revolution, putting console-quality video games on any device! As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cloud Streaming Game Services (CSGS) team, you’ll play a key role in the design and development of server-side applications on a large geographically distributed infrastructure.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience designing, implementing, and operating production software systems
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems spanning software and infrastructure
  • Passion for building reliable, maintainable, and highly automated systems
  • Strong experience developing production software in Rust
  • Experience building applications or controllers on Kubernetes
  • Experience developing software on Linux
  • Proficiency with Git and modern software development workflows
  • Familiarity with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience debugging complex distributed applications
  • Experience writing automated unit and integration tests
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, OTel, or OpenSearch
  • Experience working with modern AI-assisted software development tools to improve productivity while applying critical engineering review and validation
  • Understanding of distributed systems concepts including concurrency, asynchronous programming, event-driven architectures, fault tolerance and consistency models

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Java or C++
  • Familiar with Agile development concepts
  • Comfortable working across software, infrastructure, networking, and hardware domains
  • Experience with infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, AWX, or GitOps workflows

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software powering the globally distributed PlayStation Cloud Streaming infrastructure
  • Build Kubernetes controllers, operators, and system services powering infrastructure lifecycle management and orchestration
  • Own features from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable code with comprehensive unit and integration testing
  • Partner with SRE, Test and Platform Engineering to deliver reliable production services
  • Investigate and resolve production issues with a focus on reliability and performance
  • Contribute to architecture discussions, technical design documents, and engineering standards
  • Effectively communicate technical approaches, project status, risks, estimates, and dependencies
  • Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Codex, Claude, etc) to accelerate design, implementation, documentation, and debugging while maintaining engineering quality through sound technical judgment and code review
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and automation opportunities that improve engineering velocity, reliability, and operational efficiency
