About The Position

At Edwards Lifesciences, the Implantable Heart Failure Management (IHFM) AI, Product and Platforms organization designs and builds software and data products used by clinicians and patients. The Senior Software Engineer (Applications), Full Stack owns application and service architecture for a web product area, creates patterns and shared components for other engineers, and is responsible for the production health of delivered software. The role is based in Irvine, California, and involves in-person collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop patient-focused technology. The engineer designs and owns web application architecture, including state management, routing, data fetching, rendering, design system implementation, and experimentation. The role defines API contracts with the Platform organization, uses the Platform API gateway, implements client-side authentication and authorization, and contributes server-side code to Platform-owned services as needed. It also encompasses cloud deployment, performance and reliability ownership, modernization, design-control documentation and testing, production support and root-cause analysis, and mentoring and hiring participation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field plus four years of experience, or a master's degree plus three years of experience.
  • Deep proficiency in React or Angular with TypeScript.
  • Working proficiency in a server-side stack such as Node.js, Python, Java, Go, or Rust.
  • Demonstrated experience designing application architecture and API contracts, including state management, data fetching, and integration with internal and third-party systems.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS or GCP, including CI/CD and containers.
  • Experience owning performance, reliability, and production health of end-user-facing software.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams across time zones.
  • Ability to set standards within a secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC), including CI/CD and automated testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in medical device software (SaMD) or other regulated classes of device software under IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and FDA design controls.
  • Experience leading frontend modernization, such as Angular to React.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience implementing design systems and design tokens, including tools such as Figma and Tokens Studio.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR integration via HL7, FHIR, or IHE.
  • A cloud certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect or Developer, or a GCP equivalent.
  • Familiarity with usability engineering and human factors (IEC 62366-1).

Responsibilities

  • Design and own application architecture for a web product area, including state management, routing, data fetching against Platform APIs, rendering strategy, design system implementation, and experimentation.
  • Define and document API contracts required from Platform, consume APIs through the Platform API gateway, implement client-side authentication and authorization flows, and contribute server-side code to Platform-owned services when needed.
  • Own customer-facing performance and quality metrics, including Core Web Vitals, API latency, and error rates, and implement improvements.
  • Design and deploy web applications in AWS or GCP using containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code within Platform and DevSecOps standards and security controls.
  • Build shared patterns and components, review designs and code against them, and drive targeted modernization in the product area.
  • Produce architecture documents, verification tests, and traceability for design outputs, and understand their contribution to the Design History File under IEC 62304.
  • Serve as a trusted on-call lead for web surfaces, lead root-cause analysis, and resolve complex production issues affecting clinicians and patients, including issues involving Platform-owned services the role contributes to.
  • Mentor P1 and P2 engineers, review their designs and code, and participate in hiring.
