About The Position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. In this role, you will join the Photos Android Infrastructure team to manage the central libraries that power the Google Photos app. You will influence the engineering vision for the future of the Google Photos mobile apps by addressing technical problems in data and app architecture. You will build the frameworks that power user journeys in the app. You will manage data extensively through prefetching, caching, computing, understanding, and processing. You will help integrate our work into almost every feature that gets launched to users. Google Photos is a photo sharing and storage service developed by Google. Photos is one of the most sought after products at Google and is looking for both client-side (web and mobile), with server-side (search, storage, serving) and machine intelligence (learning, computer vision) Software Engineers. We are dedicated to making Google experiences centered around the user.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with Android application development.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience building large-scale developer APIs.
  • Expertise with profiling CPU usage and memory allocations.
  • Interest in optimizing performance latency and jank.
  • Interest in metadata storage and processing.

Responsibilities

  • Build out the future of the Photos Android core data layer alongside our talented engineering team spanning decades of industry experience.
  • Think and operate holistically across the entire Photos codebase to identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks, and ensure data consistency in all user features.
  • Design and maintain the On Device AI, metadata sync, and job scheduling frameworks to scale our mobile engineering team.
