About The Position

Syndio is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their AI Platform team. This role will focus on Syndio's AI platform, Syndi, which is an agent experience serving product lines. The platform is built on syndi-api, an agent runtime that handles orchestration, tool calling, memory, RAG, evals, and observability. The platform is young and moving fast, with a model where product teams contribute domain content through APIs, evals, and knowledge, while the platform owns the experience. The engineer will take ownership of major runtime surfaces and grow into a technical owner of the platform. This is a high-autonomy role on a small team where the engineer will design, ship, and operate systems end-to-end, working directly with product-team owners.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building production backend systems.
  • Deep comfort with Python, relational stores, and cloud infra (GCP/Kubernetes).
  • Experience building LLM-powered systems in production (agent loop, tool-calling integration, RAG, or eval infrastructure).
  • Design for operability, including legal compliance, tracing, evals, and kill switches.
  • Ability to own a technical domain with light supervision: propose direction in writing with clear API specs, take review, ship, and carry the pager.
  • Strong written communication skills for design docs and PR reviews across team boundaries.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience being the platform side of a platform/product relationship.
  • SSE/streaming systems experience.
  • Compliance-adjacent engineering (data minimization, auditability).
  • Prior Staff scope experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain core runtime surfaces of syndi-api, including the agent loop, tool execution and registry, memory, and context management.
  • Enhance and grow the eval system, which includes offline gates and online detector/judge evals based on production traces.
  • Ensure production operation, including observability (Datadog LLM Obs), incident response, and the reliability of the agent surface for real customers.
  • Manage the platform's contribution seams, including reviewing product teams' tool wrappers and evals, and evolving the GET /tools registry and drift-detection contract.
  • Clarify, design, and implement compliance and legal requirements for Syndi.
  • Onboard and master core agent runtime surfaces within the first 30 days.
  • Independently manage core runtime surfaces and troubleshoot complex issues within the first 60 days.
  • Co-own a consumer team's integration from API design to eval sign-off within the first 60-90 days.
  • Ship a major runtime capability end-to-end within the first 90 days.
  • Take on-call for the platform.

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: $205-225k USD or $180-200k CAD per year.
  • Syndio Equity.
  • Flexible Vacation Policy (up to 20 days PTO in Canada).
  • Paid sick & safe time.
  • Compassion leave.
  • Voting leave.
  • Medical, Dental, Vision (Syndio pays 90% of employee premiums, 50% for dependents).
  • Life Insurance & Disability (Syndio covers the full premium).
