Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

About The Position

We are the team of Software Development Engineers in Test (SDET) - the voice of quality within Engineering squads and the guardians of Continuous Delivery and Innovation. Quality is not a phase we own at the end of the pipeline; it is a discipline we build into every stage of development. As a Senior SDET, you will understand the technical design of applications, champion testability from the earliest design conversations, and hold a high bar for the quality of the components we ship. You will build test automation that delivers maximum, meaningful coverage in the most efficient way possible — catching defects early, preventing regressions, and giving the team the confidence to release continuously without compromising on quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience on a software development team (cross-functional environment preferred).
  • Experience designing, implementing, and running automated tests with Playwright (or a similar modern browser automation framework, with a willingness to work primarily in Playwright).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript preferred; proficiency in any functional or general-purpose language considered.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing – using AI tools to generate tests, triage failures, maintain self-healing locators, or analyze coverage gaps – and a mindset of folding these into everyday workflows.
  • API testing knowledge – REST/GraphQL, request/response validation, auth flows, and API-level automation.
  • An innate ability to pick up and ramp on new technologies and languages quickly.
  • Experience determining the cause of automated test failures.
  • Experience documenting and completing manual tests.
  • Experience writing release criteria and associated test plans.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and quality gates.

Nice To Haves

  • Payments industry experience or exposure to card issuing (virtual/physical cards, payment rails, settlement, reconciliation, or related domains).
  • Experience with contract testing (Pact or similar) and visual regression testing (Chromatic, Percy, or similar).
  • Experience introducing coverage gating and enforcing quality thresholds in the delivery pipeline.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (Datadog, Splunk) for test and production quality signals.
  • Experience building or maintaining shared test frameworks/libraries used by other engineers.
  • Exposure to evaluating non-deterministic / AI-powered features (eval frameworks, prompt/output validation)

Responsibilities

  • Spend ~80% of your time on automation and enabling the team to drive quality through strong testing practices, taking an automation-first, AI-assisted approach to test design and authoring.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Product, and Design to solidify and validate feature requirements - clear acceptance criteria, specifications, and expected outcomes - early in the lifecycle.
  • Partner with Engineering to create and evangelize quality practices, coaching developers to own more of their own test authorship over time.
  • Write automated tests in TypeScript/Playwright across UI and API layers (functional, contract, and integration).
  • Contribute to testing framework design and implementation, optimize the testing process, and enable quality gating within the CI/CD pipeline for the squad's deliverables.
  • Leverage AI tools (test generation, self-healing locators, coverage-gap analysis, failure triage) to increase coverage and reduce maintenance overhead.
  • Regularly write and complete manual and exploratory tests alongside automation to verify new features, cover edge cases, and catch regressions.
  • Investigate and root-cause automated test failures, distinguishing product defects from flaky tests and infrastructure issues.
  • Define and maintain release criteria, test plans, and coverage expectations across multiple squads.
