About The Position

Clio is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the team responsible for Clio's Calendar & Court Rules. This role involves working on the core engine and user experience that ensures lawyers stay on top of court deadlines. The position requires a presence in the hub office twice a week. The team operates across Clio Manage and a dedicated court-rules service, focusing on critical areas such as court-rule calculations, deadline automation, jurisdiction management, and the associated billing and data synchronization. The team emphasizes shipping frequently, thorough reviews, and close collaboration with Product, Design, and Content, leveraging AI to enhance their processes.

Requirements

  • Deep experience building and scaling web applications in Ruby on Rails, with a focus on data integrity.
  • A track record of leading and documenting projects end-to-end (design docs, decision records, run-books).
  • Genuine strength in mentorship, particularly growing earlier-career engineers by listening and asking questions.
  • Comfort in ambiguity and cross-functional environments, including building consensus and translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build high-trust relationships with technical and non-technical partners, and customers.
  • A track record of past projects, including notable wins and lessons learned.
  • Active use of AI to amplify craft and enthusiasm for exploring its potential.

Responsibilities

  • Go deep on complex, correctness-critical problems including jurisdiction logic, deadline calculation, cross-system data sync, and dependent billing.
  • Lead projects end-to-end, including shaping the design, documenting the reasoning, and driving implementation across relevant teams.
  • Mentor fast-rising engineers through code review, pairing, and design discussions, providing feedback that fosters growth.
  • Represent the team in cross-Clio technical discussions concerning architecture, standards, and ambiguous cross-team problems.
  • Contribute to sustainable speed by amplifying output with AI and ensuring clarity through structure.
