Senior Software Developer, Brokerage

Wealthsimple TechnologiesToronto, ON
CA$151,200 - CA$189,000Hybrid

About The Position

Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator, offering a full suite of simple, sophisticated financial products. The company serves over 4 million Canadians and holds more than $125 billion in assets under administration. This role is for an engineer who thrives on deep financial-services domain expertise, prefers an operations standup over a JIRA grooming session, and wants to leave their mark on systems that process billions of dollars for millions of Canadians. The mandate is broad and the autonomy is real, with the opportunity to research how the organization operates, identify workflows with manual effort, reconciliation breaks, and tooling gaps that compound into operational and regulatory risk, and ship solutions to address these issues. This can be through code, workflow redesign, or AI-augmented automation in partnership with the agentic workflows team. The brokerage business is scaling rapidly, expanding its regulatory surface area with every new product. This role is crucial for achieving the company's 2026 priority to cut ops tickets per 1,000 transactions in half.

Requirements

  • Senior software engineer with strong full-stack range and comfort across data pipelines, internal tooling, and AI-augmented workflow automation.
  • Genuine collaborator with non-engineers, able to build trust with compliance officers and traders, and translate operational needs into shippable solutions.
  • Bias for shipping in the weeds; making judgment calls about what to fix without waiting for a PM to scope it.
  • Comfort with ambiguity; ability to take a vague problem and develop a concrete diagnosis, path, and outcome.
  • Reuse-first mindset; coordinate across embedded teams and integrate with existing systems.
  • Entrepreneur mindset; proactively identify needs, take ownership, and drive solutions forward with autonomy.
  • Deep curiosity; willingness to read documentation, dig into the 'why' behind business requirements, and learn new domains.
  • AI-first mindset; leverage AI tools to accelerate development, improve code quality, and solve problems.
  • Strong written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, brokerage operations, regulated financial services, or capital markets infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Oracle/Exadata/EBS, ledger systems, or large-scale internal tooling platforms.
  • A track record of shipping AI-driven workflow automation in regulated environments.
  • Experience leading workstreams that spanned multiple teams or organizations, delivering impact without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with enablement teams — Brokerage Operations, AML/Compliance Supervision, Trade Desk, Treasury, Account Operations, Margin Supervision — to deeply understand how the work gets done and where the friction lives.
  • Automate high-volume manual workflows end to end, from regulatory reporting (AML STR/LVCTR/EFTR, Form 1/CIRO, DTC asset segregation) to journal entries, reconciliations, collateral monitoring, brokerage liquidations, and complex registered-plan administration.
  • Advance risk oversight for leveraged offerings by building automated alerts, managing liquidation processes, and daily reconciliations with external vendors.
  • Partner with the AI agentic workflows team to ensure built solutions are accurate, secure, auditable, and reuse shared components.
  • Exercise judgment on what's the highest impact, working with leadership, engineering managers, and operators to decide what gets built.
  • Surface invisible problems through pattern recognition across workflows, providing insights for R&D planning.
  • Report to Engineering and Brokerage leadership on learnings and opportunities.
