Senior Snowflake / data platform engineer

DTCCTampa, FL

About The Position

The Information Technology group delivers secure, reliable technology solutions that enable DTCC to be the trusted infrastructure of the global capital markets. The team delivers high-quality information through activities that include development of essential, building infrastructure capabilities to meet client needs and implementing data standards and governance. DTCC’s Global Trade Repository (GTR) is the industry‑owned global leader in trade reporting, enabling market participants to meet critical regulatory and operational requirements across derivatives and securities financing transactions. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and supporting data‑intensive applications that power GTR’s global reporting platform. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role with deep ownership—combining Snowflake database engineering (approx. 70%), Java application development (approx. 30%), and production support responsibilities to ensure stability, scalability, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions. This role is ideal for a senior Snowflake‑focused engineer who enjoys hands‑on ownership of data platforms and production systems, rather than a people‑management or front‑end‑focused role.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6-8 years of related experience.
  • 6+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience, delivering reliable, production‑ready application and data solutions
  • Strong Snowflake experience, including SQL development, data modeling, performance optimization, tasks, streams, views, and security controls
  • Solid Core Java experience (multithreading, concurrency, backend services) and experience integrating applications with data platforms
  • Proven experience supporting production environments, including troubleshooting, monitoring, and incident response
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and release support
  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery teams
  • Strong functional and business understanding, with the ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions
  • Strong focus on reliability, risk, and controls, embedded in day‑to‑day engineering and operational work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong ownership, and the ability to lead through influence in fast‑paced environments

Nice To Haves

  • Strong Snowflake experience supporting enterprise‑scale, production workloads
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and associated services; familiarity with resolving cloud‑related operational issues
  • Python for automation, scripting, or data processing
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery (DR) and business continuity, including planning, testing, and validation
  • Experience improving observability, alerting, and monitoring to reduce noise and improve service stability
  • Demonstrated passion for automation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Comfort working with global, distributed teams and operating with urgency
  • Willingness to mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to a collaborative team culture

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a fully independent, hands‑on technical contributor with primary ownership of Snowflake‑based data platforms and pipelines (≈70%) supporting DTCC’s Global Trade Repository
  • Design, develop, and optimize Snowflake solutions, including complex SQL, stored procedures, functions, data modeling, performance tuning, warehouse scaling, and security controls
  • Translate well‑defined business and functional requirements into sound technical designs, partnering closely with Business System Analysts and business stakeholders
  • Build, enhance, and support Java‑based backend components and integrations (≈30%) that interface with Snowflake and upstream/downstream systems
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cloud, and Platform teams to deploy and operate solutions across approved cloud and on‑prem environments
  • Analyze and resolve performance, stability, and data quality issues across applications and Snowflake workloads, applying best practices and established engineering patterns
  • Support production operations, including incident response, defect resolution, deployments, and participation in on‑call rotations
  • Plan and support Disaster Recovery (DR) activities, including test execution, recovery validation, and audit evidence collection
  • Identify and implement automation and CI/CD improvements to improve data processing efficiency, reliability, and operational readiness
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers while contributing to code reviews, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation, including base pay and annual incentive
  • Comprehensive health and life insurance and well-being benefits, based on location
  • Pension / Retirement benefits
  • Paid Time Off and Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
