Senior SMT Manufacturing Engineer

The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory•Cambridge, MA
•$75,000 - $245,000

About The Position

Draper is an independent, nonprofit research and development company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with more than 2,000 employees working on national challenges across areas including military defense, space exploration, and biomedical engineering. Its multidisciplinary teams collaborate to develop successful, usable solutions. The Senior SMT Manufacturing Engineer will influence SMT and mixed-technology assembly from concept through production. The role applies SMT expertise, CAD skills, and statistical knowledge to develop reflow profiles, engineer SMT stencils and tooling, and program and optimize automation equipment. The engineer will work with engineering and production teams to deliver hardware for mission-critical programs and drive improvements in high-reliability manufacturing environments. The position involves creating product concepts with CAD, gathering design resources, testing products for usability and safety, and overseeing manufacturing and production standards. The engineer will address complex problems with limited direction, contribute to requirements development, recommend design or process changes based on quantitative results, identify and mitigate technical risks, and mentor less experienced engineers. Applicants selected for the position must obtain and maintain a government security clearance; a Secret clearance is preferred.
