Senior Smart Contract Engineer

About The Position

CoinList is seeking a senior smart contract engineer to build Solidity smart contracts that integrate with asset providers such as Ondo and Centrifuge. The contracts act as a proxy between users and underlying assets, providing a common interface for products built on top of them. The role is part of a small engineering team in a greenfield-heavy environment and reports directly to the CTO. The engineer will ship contracts to EVM mainnets, where they will be externally audited and may hold user funds, while maintaining a high technical and security bar. The role involves designing complete contract systems, including boundaries, interfaces, storage layout, upgrade strategy, access control, emergency paths, and decisions about which functionality belongs onchain. The engineer will own meaningful work across products, perform adversarial reviews, address audit findings, write fuzz and invariant tests, rehearse deployments on testnets, and participate in monitoring and incident response. CoinList is also willing to support growth into Rust and the Solana runtime. The position is fully remote and U.S.-based. The team is primarily on the U.S. East and West Coasts, and the engineer should be comfortable overlapping some hours with non-U.S. time zones. Compensation includes a base salary of $170,000–$190,000, based on experience and jurisdiction, and equity as a significant part of total compensation.

Requirements

  • Over 7 years of professional work experience, including at least 2 years writing Solidity that reached production.
  • Strong knowledge of EVM internals, including storage layout and packing, gas mechanics, memory versus calldata versus storage, ABI encoding, events and indexing, contract size limits, and their tradeoffs.
  • Knowledge of modern Solidity patterns, including proxies and upgradeability, role-based access control, EIP-712 signature verification and replay protection, reentrancy defenses, and oracle or price-manipulation defenses.
  • Experience with Foundry or Hardhat, fork tests, fuzzing, and invariant testing, with a testing workflow justified from first principles.
  • An attacker-oriented security mindset, including considering flash loans, MEV bots, and malicious tokens and documenting findings.
  • Ability to produce high-quality code, set and meet deadlines, prioritize effectively, and reliably complete work.
  • Product-mindedness and interest in the purpose of the work, not only its implementation.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to involve others, and comfort starting work amid ambiguity.
  • Strong written communication skills for a distributed, remote-first team.
  • Fully remote work from the United States and comfort overlapping some hours with non-U.S. time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Rust and Anchor experience, or production experience with Solana programs, including SPL tokens, program-derived addresses, token extensions, or compute-unit optimization.
  • DeFi protocol experience with lending, AMMs, ERC-4626 vaults, staking, or reward accounting.
  • Account abstraction experience with ERC-4337, including smart accounts, paymasters, or bundlers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship Solidity smart contracts on EVM chains that integrate with asset providers and provide a common interface between users and underlying assets.
  • Design contract systems from the ground up, including boundaries, interfaces, storage layout, upgrade strategy, access control, and emergency paths.
  • Evaluate which functionality belongs onchain.
  • Own meaningful contract work across critical token sales and new products.
  • Review colleagues’ contracts adversarially and evaluate external audit findings.
  • Write fuzz and invariant tests, rehearse deployments on testnets, and contribute to monitoring and incident response.
  • Deliver high-quality work at a fast pace while focusing on important priorities.
  • Use AI tools naturally in daily work to improve speed.
  • Collaborate independently, communicate effectively in a distributed team, and work through ambiguity.
  • Overlap some working hours with non-U.S. time zones.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage at no monthly cost (U.S. only).
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Monthly AI tool budget.
  • Equity as a significant part of total compensation.
