About The Position

The senior sleep technologist is responsible for performing and evaluating routine and specialized overnight polysomnograms (PSGs) and Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLTs), while ensuring patient safety. This role involves calibrating equipment, attaching sensors, performing bio-calibration, monitoring laboratory equipment, observing patients during sleep, making decisions to initiate Bi/CPAP titration or other treatments based on lab criteria, and scoring polysomnographic recordings upon request. The technologist may also perform MSLTs, infant and pediatric recordings, scoring of records, and daytime studies as needed. They are expected to work at all UCLA Sleep Lab locations as required for laboratory operations. The level of effort in specific activities may vary based on patient volume and center needs. The sleep technologist reports to the Lab Manager and Supervisor, and may receive instructions from the Medical Director, staff physicians, or other designated personnel. They must follow Laboratory protocols and policies for emergency and non-emergency situations. The Technologist will work independently within their scope of practice and as a team member to ensure the smooth operation of the Sleep Disorders Center. Candidates will be placed according to their experience and current career ladder level.

Requirements

  • Polysomnography experience is required
  • Demonstrated ability to score 30 second epochs is required
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • CPR Certification is required
  • RPSGT certification is required
  • Other licensures/registrations as required by state departments or other licensing/accreditation agencies
  • Experience in sleep recording instrumentation and scoring techniques required
  • Comfort working with clinical research populations required
  • Required to work flexible hours including nights and/or days as patient scheduling indicates
  • As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts an offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of substantiated misconduct with a previous employer.

Responsibilities

  • Follow policies and procedures for reporting of non-emergency situations related to facilities, medical record, engineering, etc.
  • Work independently within their scope of practice
  • Work as a team member to ensure the smooth operation of the Sleep Disorders Center
