About The Position

Glean is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to strengthen the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of its production services. This hands-on individual-contributor role designs, builds, and operates resilient cloud infrastructure; improves service reliability against meaningful SLOs; and helps teams respond to production issues through effective observability, incident practices, and blameless learning. The engineer contributes technical expertise to system and architectural decisions and partners with engineers across the organization to deliver dependable systems. The role addresses distributed-systems challenges across a hybrid cloud environment. The engineer uses software engineering and SRE skills to automate repetitive work, build tools, and improve deployment, monitoring, and on-call workflows. Work includes investigating incidents, reducing toil, and optimizing performance, capacity, and cost to support company growth and a reliable customer experience. The position is hybrid, with four days a week in Glean’s Mountain View office. The standard base salary range is $200,000–$260,000 annually. Compensation may also include variable compensation, equity, and benefits depending on the role. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 5 years of experience in a senior-level Site Reliability Engineering or similar role, particularly managing cloud-based services and infrastructure.
At least 5 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages.
At least 3 years of experience leading projects and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems running in the cloud.
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
Solid understanding of networking, security principles, and SRE and security best practices.
Proficiency with monitoring and alerting tools to detect and respond to potential issues.
Ability to participate in the primary on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and mentorship, promote reliability practices, and contribute to cross-team collaboration and key objectives.
Establish technical credibility, shape architectural decisions, and help ensure delivery of high-quality, reliable systems.
Implement and maintain resilient cloud architectures; monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks or failure points.
Participate in the primary on-call rotation, support blameless postmortems, and improve the sustainability and efficiency of on-call processes.
Develop and maintain automation scripts, tools, and processes for system deployment, monitoring, and management.
Optimize cloud infrastructure and applications for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
Collaborate with security engineers to implement best practices and support compliance with security standards and policies.
Design and configure monitoring systems, alerts, dashboards, and playbooks for production on-call.
Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including system design and launch reviews, and provide SRE input on system architecture.
Investigate incidents, reduce operational toil, and improve deployment, monitoring, and on-call workflows.
