Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Storage Platforms
About The Position
Five9 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer to design, implement, and support Software Defined Storage (SDS) and Kubernetes platforms in a private cloud environment. The role focuses on scalability, resilience, automation, and performance using Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps practices. It requires expert knowledge of SDS, Kubernetes, and Linux operating systems, along with collaboration across platform and SRE teams to maintain secure, performant, multi-tenant-isolated services for high-throughput, mission-critical applications. The position includes operating enterprise storage platforms and SDS solutions, building self-service storage workflows for Kubernetes and OpenStack consumers, automating infrastructure delivery, and maintaining highly available and disaster-recovery-capable environments. The engineer will troubleshoot across storage, Kubernetes, hypervisors, networking, and Linux systems; participate in on-call and incident response; and contribute to design documentation and operational practices. The role is hybrid and requires working in Five9’s Dallas office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Five9 describes a collaborative environment with complex infrastructure challenges and the opportunity to shape a next-generation private cloud platform. The total compensation package may include an annual performance bonus, stock, and/or other incentive compensation. The US base salary range is $90,700–$252,200.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience managing enterprise storage and Kubernetes platforms on Linux.
- Strong hands-on experience with SDS solutions such as Ceph and Longhorn, and storage migrations from legacy systems.
- Experience with block, file, and object storage, including Fibre Channel and IP-based protocols.
- Experience with NVMe-oF or iSCSI fabrics.
- Expert knowledge of Kubernetes and Linux systems, including Ubuntu and RHEL/CentOS.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, including Ansible and Terraform.
- Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash.
- Strong working knowledge of Enterprise DNS and integrations with Kubernetes.
- Experience operating 24x7 mission-critical production environments.
- Hands-on experience with KVM hypervisors, including SUSE Harvester or OpenStack.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Ability to write technical documentation and contribute to community wikis or knowledge bases.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and ability to translate complex, cross-domain requirements into scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure and automation solutions.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, including experience working across developers, operations, security, and product stakeholders.
- Experience guiding junior engineers and a commitment to mentorship and knowledge-sharing.
Nice To Haves
- Golang (Go) scripting experience.
- OpenStack Cinder multi-backend administration.

- Understanding of CIS/NIST security and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- ITIL Foundation or advanced certifications supporting ITSM methodology.

- CNCF Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS), or Red Hat Specialist in Ceph Storage Administration (EX125) certification.
- Master’s degree in computer science, IT, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience and relevant industry certifications will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate large-scale Software Defined Storage architectures across private and public cloud regions within ITIL methodology.
- Deploy and support enterprise storage platforms, including Pure Storage, HPE, and NetApp, and SDS solutions, including Ceph and Longhorn.
- Build self-service storage workflows for Kubernetes CSI and OpenStack consumers, including VM and bare-metal consumers.
- Develop Infrastructure-as-Code using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, and Git, with Python and Bash automation.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure updates, patching, upgrades, testing, and rollback.
- Build observability, alerting, and auto-remediation using GitOps and tools such as Prometheus, Loki, and Grafana.
- Architect and maintain highly available, disaster-recovery-capable, scale-out infrastructure.
- Develop and review high-level and low-level design documents for storage infrastructure.
- Perform deep troubleshooting across storage, Kubernetes, hypervisors, networking, and Linux systems.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate globally on change management, documentation, and operational best practices.
- Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers while supporting continuous learning and technical excellence.
