Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Taskrabbit•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Taskrabbit is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join its Engineering organization and improve the reliability, scalability, and operational maturity of its engineering platform. The SRE team partners with Cloud Infrastructure, Developer Productivity, Security, Architecture, and application engineering teams to keep production systems reliable, scalable, and resilient. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on solving complex production challenges, building automation, and improving systems at scale. The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will work across applications and infrastructure to investigate reliability issues, strengthen observability and incident response, and create tools and practices that make systems easier and safer to operate. The role requires independently owning complex technical problems, collaborating across teams, and driving lasting production reliability improvements. The position is hybrid and requires working in Taskrabbit’s San Francisco hub two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday. The engineer participates in primary and secondary on-call rotations, typically serving one week in each rotation approximately every 12–13 weeks. Taskrabbit is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in SRE or equivalent production reliability engineering roles, including hands-on ownership of production reliability and operational improvements.
  • Strong understanding of SRE principles and practices, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, incident management, and postmortems.
  • Production operations experience, including participation in on-call rotations, troubleshooting high-severity incidents, performing root-cause analysis, and driving corrective and preventive actions.
  • Hands-on experience building and improving observability using platforms such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or similar technologies, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and dashboards.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes in production environments; Amazon EKS experience is ideal.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and deployment automation using tools such as Terraform, GitOps, or ArgoCD.
  • Strong software engineering skills in TypeScript, Ruby, or Python, with experience building automation or internal platform tooling.
  • Ability to independently own complex technical projects, make sound technical decisions, and collaborate across engineering teams to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering partners and stakeholders.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with distributed systems and technologies such as Kafka, Redis, or MySQL/RDS.
  • Experience with performance engineering, capacity planning, or cloud cost optimization.
  • Experience modernizing infrastructure or migrating production workloads.
  • Experience building AI-powered operational automation, incident-response agents, or engineering productivity tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering teams to define and evolve SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and availability, latency, and capacity targets.
  • Identify reliability risks and implement improvements that make production systems more resilient.
  • Improve telemetry, alerting, dashboards, and on-call practices; reduce noisy or unactionable alerts and turn incident learnings into lasting improvements.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues spanning applications, infrastructure, data stores, networking, and deployment systems; identify root causes and implement durable solutions.
  • Build automation, self-service tooling, and operational capabilities that reduce manual effort and improve reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Develop AI-assisted and agentic workflows for incident triage, investigation, runbook execution, alert analysis, and remediation, exploring autonomous operations with appropriate safety controls and human oversight.
  • Collaborate with application engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Developer Productivity, and other teams to improve system resilience, share operational learnings, and promote reliable engineering practices.
  • Participate in primary and secondary SRE on-call rotations, support complex incidents and engineering escalations, and help improve escalation practices, operational readiness, and shared reliability standards.

Benefits

  • Employer-paid health insurance for US-based employees.
  • 401(k) match with immediate vesting for US-based employees.
  • Generous and flexible time off for global employees, including two company-wide closure weeks.
  • Taskrabbit product stipends.
  • Wellness, productivity, and education stipends.
  • IKEA discounts.
