About The Position

This role is for an experienced SEO professional who wants to take ownership of content and link-building strategies in-house. The ideal candidate will work directly with the founder and CMO, driving organic growth for a residential plumbing company in Orange County, California. The position involves building a content engine from scratch, focusing on tangible results and direct impact on the business. This is a hands-on role, not a management position, requiring a proactive approach to identifying and acting on SEO opportunities. The company is heavily investing in organic growth and seeks an expert to lead this initiative.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on SEO experience for B2C businesses (home services experience is a plus).
  • Hands-on experience across the SEO reporting stack (GA4, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, SEMrush, BrightLocal, or equivalents).
  • Proven link building experience with real campaigns and results.
  • Experience in content production at volume: personally researching, briefing, and editing 4+ pieces of publish-ready content per week.
  • Strong understanding of local SEO fundamentals (Google Business Profile, citation management, NAP consistency, location page strategy, Local Pack ranking factors).
  • Strong written English skills for content creation and editing.
  • Experience working Pacific Time Zone hours.
  • Reliable internet, a quiet workspace, and the ability to be on camera for team meetings.
  • Ability to take ownership, operate with high integrity, and communicate proactively.
  • Full attention during business hours; not a side gig or stacked with other clients.
  • Video application required.

Responsibilities

  • Own the content and link building strategy in-house.
  • Drive organic traffic, improve local rankings, and build a compounding content engine.
  • Collaborate daily with the Senior Web Developer on technical aspects and content strategy.
  • Align strategically with the CMO on content priorities and performance.
  • Communicate directly with the founder regarding SEO work.
  • Manage content production at scale, including researching, writing, and optimizing 4-6 publish-ready pieces per week (blog posts, service pages, location pages, landing pages), with AI assistance.
  • Take full ownership of link building, including outreach, guest posting, digital PR, broken link building, HARO, manufacturer dealer pages, and local sponsorships.
  • Develop and execute content and on-page SEO strategy, including keyword research, topical authority building, content refreshes, and gap analysis.
  • Set the editorial calendar and manage internal linking strategy.
  • Develop schema strategy, deciding on types, fields, and content.
  • Manage local SEO efforts, including location page strategy, citation management, NAP consistency, and Local Pack ranking factors.
  • Take over Google Business Profile strategy and oversight within the first 90 days.
  • Conduct strategic and content SEO audits (link profile, content gaps, competitor positioning, on-page performance, topical authority).
  • Perform strategic interpretation of Google Search Console data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Provide clear weekly tactical updates and substantive monthly performance reports on organic traffic, search visibility, local performance, backlink growth, content output, link building results, and competitor analysis.
