Senior Security Engineer

RangeMcLean, VA

About The Position

Range is building AI-powered wealth management that actually works, offering a single platform for investments, taxes, retirement, and estate planning. We are a hyper-growth startup with a small team where every person matters. We are looking for a senior security engineer who will be responsible for keeping our members' financial lives safe by probing our AI systems, infrastructure, and applications for weaknesses. This role involves working directly with engineers to fix identified issues, closing gaps in threat detection and response, and exploring new attack surfaces introduced by AI, such as training pipelines, inference systems, and model architectures. The security engineer will also help build automated tools, contribute to security program measurement, and foster security awareness within the engineering team. At Range, security engineers are builders, not gatekeepers.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional security engineering experience
  • Deep hands-on experience with offensive security: red teaming, penetration testing, or vulnerability research
  • Experience assessing cloud infrastructure security, preferably AWS (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, and similar)
  • Ability to develop custom tools and automation for security testing (Python, Go, or similar)
  • Experience analyzing and exploiting web application vulnerabilities
  • Strong understanding of threat actor techniques, tactics, and procedures
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI/ML system security: training pipelines, inference systems, model architectures

  • Startup experience
