About The Position

SpryPoint is modernizing how utilities serve their communities. As a high-growth software company, we're shaking up the status quo in the utility industry with the first and only truly cloud-native customer service and operations platform purpose-built for modern utilities. Founded by industry veterans in 2011, we've grown from a profitable startup to a rapidly scaling company of 300+ employees serving 100+ utility clients across North America and the Caribbean. Our mission is simple: utility leaders should expect more from their technology providers. Utilities face urgent demand to replace inefficient legacy systems while managing increasing operational complexity, and evolving customer expectations. With more than a decade of experience, and a track record of successful implementations spanning water, electric, and gas utilities, SpryPoint has built a reputation as a trusted and mission-critical partner to utilities across North America. We deliver comprehensive solutions including SpryCIS, SpryEngage, SpryMobile, and SpryWallet that modernize the entire meter-to-cash process. What sets us apart? Our "updates, not upgrades" approach, user-centric design, and unwavering focus on customer success. Backed by strategic investment from Norwest Venture Partners since 2023, and an exciting new investment partnership from Insight Partners announced in 2026, we're accelerating our growth while staying true to our core values: lead with kindness, vision with impact, radical honesty, bold disruption, keep it simple, and execute with excellence. Join our award-winning team in transforming an essential industry that powers communities across the Americas. We are looking for a Senior SDET to help build our test automation from the ground up. You will design the framework, write the automated tests that give us confidence to ship, and bring modern AI-assisted tooling into how we work. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who codes like a developer but is driven by quality. You will be one of the first engineers on a new team, so the patterns you set will shape how the whole organization tests. You will work closely with the QA Engineering Manager and with developers across product squads. In your first 90 days, the automation framework will be in place, with a proof-of-concept suite running in CI on our highest-risk flows. By six months, you'll have meaningful automated coverage of critical user journeys, a low flaky-test rate, and faster feedback on every change. Ongoing, you'll maintain a trusted, maintainable suite: applying AI tooling where it genuinely saves time, with other engineers picking up the patterns you set.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in software test automation or software engineering with a strong testing focus.
  • Strong coding skills in at least one of: Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript.
  • Deep experience with a modern automation framework (Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium) including building or owning a framework, not just writing tests inside one.
  • Solid API testing experience (Postman, REST Assured, or similar) and comfort with SQL and database validation.
  • Hands-on experience integrating tests into CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Working knowledge of cloud (AWS) and containers (Docker).
  • A pragmatic, risk-based mindset and the judgement to know what's worth automating.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants or AI test-generation tools in real work (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar), with a clear view of their strengths and limits.
  • Comfort writing effective prompts to generate test ideas, edge cases, and to analyze failures.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Claude and Claude Code.
  • Experience setting up test automation from scratch on a team that had little automation before.
  • Performance testing (k6 / JMeter) or security testing exposure.
  • Experience in a regulated or high-reliability domain (utilities, fintech, healthcare, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the test automation framework and the standards other engineers will follow.
  • Write and maintain automated tests across the stack: API, integration, and end-to-end UI.
  • Prioritize automation by risk and value, favoring fast, reliable API-level tests over brittle UI tests where possible.
  • Integrate tests into CI/CD so they run automatically on every change and give fast feedback.
  • Drive down flakiness and keep the suite trustworthy, so failures mean something.
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted testing tools (test generation, self-healing tests, failure triage), and use AI and prompt engineering to accelerate test creation and edge-case discovery.
  • Review AI-generated tests and code with a critical eye (you are the human-in-the-loop, not a rubber stamp).
  • Mentor other engineers on automation practices and help raise testing quality across squads.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance from day one
  • Generous PTO and unlimited sick days
  • RRSP (Canada) and 401k (US) matching programs
  • $2,500 annual development fund, tuition assistance, and Book Bounty program
  • Annual company events and team offsites
