About The Position

The Scrum Master position within the Refining IT aligned Digital Product Delivery Services group is a critical delivery role focused on driving digital transformation across the refining organization. This role serves as a servant leader and coach for the Agile teams, facilitating team events and processes, coaching and supporting teams in delivering value. The Scrum Master in Refining Digital will have persistent focus on relentless improvement for how MPC uses technology that enables our business. The SM will work closely with Product Owners and other product teams. The role will provide daily guidance for the team to ensure alignment of goals and objectives, relieving impediments, and most importantly holding teams accountable for delivering commitments and value.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other computer-related degree required.
Five (5) or more years of relevant Scrum Master experience required.
Agile Methodology – Agile project management is an iterative approach to delivering a project throughout its life cycle, taking incremental steps towards the completion of a project.

Issue Resolution – The process of addressing problems that need to be solved, the decisions that need to be made, and the risks that need to be mitigated.
Leadership & Mentoring – Ability to show leadership and influence people in an effort to accomplish team goals. Transfer knowledge through guidance and 'hands-on' experiences centered around a person's goal of learning job procedures, content, standards, analysis and problem-solving.
Metrics Reporting – Metrics reporting involves the systematic collection, analysis, and presentation of quantifiable data to evaluate the performance or progress of a specific process, project, or system. It serves as a valuable tool for informed decision-making and continuous improvement by providing insights into key indicators and trends.
Risk Management – The development of policies, procedures, and technologies to mitigate threats from malicious actors and reduce information technology vulnerabilities.
Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) - A process used by the software industry to design, develop and test high-quality software.
Team Management – Ability to organize, gain the involvement of, and manage diverse work groups and/or task forces to accomplish specific project or unit goals.
Workflow Optimization – The process of improving an existing workflow, by reducing operating costs or improving the efficiency of work done.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
5+ years of relevant scrum master experience

Responsibilities

Establishes Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban) for multiple teams by creating optimal environments for development and collaboration.
Facilitate team and cross-team events to proactively identify stakeholder opportunities and maintain open lines of communication.
Proactively coaches and advises Product Owner and people leaders on team configuration and dynamics for optimal delivery.
Collaborates closely with Product Owners to strengthen backlog health, assist in story mapping, and streamline dependency management without direct reporting ownership.
Partners with Release Train Engineers (RTEs), Portfolio Managers, and external vendor teams to sync interdependencies during Program Increment (PI) planning and ensure alignment with MPC's broader refining objectives.
Monitors project or iteration planning, including setting goals and objectives, defining roles and developing detailed timelines.
Identifies obstacles and impediments or enables the team to remove impediments.
Seeks innovative ways to bring out more predictable planning outcomes and goal development in team settings.
Implements team processes, automation, etc. that improves adherence to governance, controls and best practices in Agile delivery or DevSecOps.
Identifies critical team stakeholders and proactively finds opportunities for them to engage in team events.
Coaches Product Owners and others toward advanced Story and Feature development, including behavior-driven development concepts; story mapping, definitions of done and automation, as appropriate.
Drives Agile Methodology, including iteration planning, refinements, retrospectives, and daily standups for a team or team-of teams.
Adopts and implements Agile mindsets and practices, develops education for the organization on Agile best practices.
