About The Position

The Senior Scrum Master enables assigned Scrum Teams to improve their effectiveness, self-management, and ability to deliver valuable, high-quality product increments. The role serves as an internal team coach, facilitator, and change agent who helps teams, Product Owners, and organizational partners apply Scrum effectively, strengthen empirical ways of working, and continuously improve delivery outcomes. The Senior Scrum Master works across team and organizational boundaries to identify and address impediments, improve flow, strengthen collaboration, and promote transparency, inspection, and adaptation. The role supports alignment between product priorities and team delivery while helping create the conditions in which teams can operate with increasing autonomy, accountability, and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Scrum, Agile principles, empiricism, self-management, and iterative product delivery.
  • Strong coaching skills with the ability to develop team capability rather than create dependency on the Scrum Master.
  • Advanced facilitation skills, including the ability to facilitate complex discussions, conflict resolution, decision-making, and organizational alignment.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish team-level impediments from cross-team and systemic organizational constraints.
  • Strong systems-thinking skills and the ability to recognize relationships among flow, dependencies, organizational structures, policies, incentives, and delivery outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret delivery, flow, quality, and predictability data as empirical signals and use those signals to support inspection and adaptation.
  • Ability to coach Product Owners, Developers, leaders, and stakeholders in their interactions with Scrum Teams and the broader product-delivery system.
  • Ability to influence without positional authority and build productive relationships across product, engineering, architecture, operations, and other organizational functions.
  • Strong understanding of Product Backlog refinement, Sprint forecasting, Sprint Goals, Product Goals, Definition of Done, and incremental value delivery.
  • Ability to foster psychological safety, constructive accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, product leaders, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to mentor Scrum Masters and contribute to organizational Scrum capability and consistent professional practice.
  • Ability to balance team autonomy with the alignment required for effective multi-team product delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, adaptability, and a continuous-learning mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Scrum is understood and effectively applied while helping Scrum Teams continuously improve how they use the framework.
  • Coach Scrum Teams toward greater self-management, cross-functionality, collaboration, and collective accountability.
  • Ensure Scrum events are purposeful, effective, and produce their intended outcomes; facilitate when appropriate while building the team’s capability to facilitate and self-manage.
  • Coach Product Owners in effective Product Backlog management, Product Goal clarity, backlog ordering, refinement, stakeholder collaboration, and value-focused decision-making.
  • Help teams establish meaningful Sprint Goals and maintain focus on delivering usable, high-quality Increments that meet the Definition of Done.
  • Coach teams in effective refinement, story slicing, acceptance criteria, forecasting, flow management, and sustainable delivery practices.
  • Identify systemic impediments and cause their removal by working with teams, leaders, stakeholders, and other organizational functions.
  • Surface and help address cross-team dependencies, organizational constraints, decision delays, excessive work in process, and other conditions that impede flow.
  • Foster continuous improvement through effective Retrospectives, empirical inspection, experimentation, and follow-through on improvement actions.
  • Help teams and leaders use delivery, flow, quality, and predictability signals to identify trends, understand system behavior, and inform improvement decisions.
  • Promote transparency and responsible use of metrics as diagnostic and learning signals rather than measures of individual or team performance.
  • Facilitate constructive conflict, strengthen psychological safety, and support healthy working relationships within and across teams.
  • Support alignment between Product Goals, Sprint Goals, Product Backlog priorities, and broader business outcomes while preserving appropriate team decision-making authority.
  • Partner with other Scrum Masters, Product Owners, engineering leaders, and organizational stakeholders to improve cross-team coordination and the effectiveness of the broader delivery system.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced Scrum Masters and contribute to shared Scrum practices, Communities of Practice, and organizational learning.
  • Champion Agile values, Scrum principles, empiricism, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Support organizational change efforts that improve product delivery, reduce systemic friction, and enable greater aligned autonomy.
