About The Position

In this on-site role, you will play a primary role in driving the new product development of biosensors and other consumables for Octet label-free technology platforms. The candidate will be the technical expert to create new biosensor chemistries, design and configure biological assays for binding analysis on Octet BLI and SPR instruments, verify and validate application and workflow, and ensure manufacturability and transferability of Octet consumables. Onsite role based at our Fremont, CA site.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in a life science discipline (molecular biology, protein engineering, antibody engineering, biochemistry, genetics, or closely related disciplines).
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience and demonstrated track record in assay development for bimolecular interaction analysis, including but not limited to protein-protein, protein-small molecule, protein-nucleic acid binding.
  • Strong foundation in analytical test method, design of experiment and protein science.
  • Extensive experience in product development, verification and validation for the biopharmaceutical, protein analysis and other life science market.
  • Sound knowledge in scaling up prototype product from small scale/feasibility study to large scale/manufacturing level.
  • Excellence in organization, time-management, and record-keeping, strong interpersonal, communication, and technical writing skills
  • Detail-oriented, excellent in problem solving and troubleshooting, and can function both independently as well as part of a team.
  • A self-motivated individual who can work and contribute to a highly collaborative and fluid environment on multiple concurrent projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical expertise in BLI, SPR or other protein-protein interaction technologies preferred.
  • Knowledge in quality by design (QbD), critical quality attributes (CQA), and critical process parameters (CPP) in cell line development as well as gene therapy development preferred.
  • Experience in multiple types of assays (e.g. ELISA, cell-based assay, nucleic acid-based assay) is a plus.
  • Expertise in high-throughput screening, sandwich assay design and complex data analysis software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, proof-of-concept, and development of new biosensor, consumable, and assay/application for real-time binding quantitation/kinetics analysis of proteins and other biomolecules on Octet BLI and SPR platforms.
  • Conduct experimental designs in an organized and methodical manner for biosensor development and assay optimization to improve the repeatability, stability, and robustness of consumable products.
  • Interact cross-functionally to translate customer requirements and define products.
  • Design and execute verification/validation plan for the development of new assays, instruments, and methodologies.
  • Take responsibility and accountability to lead the transfer of the biosensors and other consumables from development to manufacturing.
  • Create and implement quality control methods for Octet consumables and instruments.
  • Represent the assay R&D group in project teams to develop new biosensor and consumable products.
  • Generate reports of assay development and clearly communicate progresses and findings to the core team.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and risk management for products and projects.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of experimental data and generate sound technical protocols for the development of highly reproducible and reliable biosensors and other consumables for applications in pharmaceutical, academic, and other life science research areas.
  • Establish and maintain strong technical knowledge of assay development for label-free technologies, Octet SPR and BLI products and their applications as well as relevant competing products and companies.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge on released products and related technical support for field teams.
  • Participate in intellectual property creation.
