About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb Company is hiring a(n) Senior Scientist, Mass Spectrometry (in New Brunswick, NJ). This role involves independently designing, developing, and executing methods for trace-level, quantitative analysis of impurities in drug substance and drug product using innovative and robust LC/high-resolution mass spectrometry workflows. It also includes applying high resolution MS and MS/MS techniques for the structural characterization of impurities and degradants in small molecule drug compounds, and characterizing biologic therapeutics using mass spectrometry-driven peptide mapping analysis to support pharmaceutical formulation development. The position also involves instrument maintenance, user training, influencing scientists and initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity in structure elucidation capabilities, engaging in active discussions, and delivering high-quality data within timelines. Collaboration with other subject matter experts is key to developing project knowledge, meeting project goals, and enabling departmental capabilities. The role requires presentation of scientific data, drafting of expert technical reports, and representation of the analytical function in matrix team meetings. There is also an opportunity for expansion of skills in techniques beyond mass spectrometry, such as NMR, to become a more complete structure elucidation scientist. Telecommuting is permitted on a hybrid schedule as determined by the employer.

Requirements

  • PhD degree or foreign equivalent degree in Chemistry, or a related field, and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Developing and running mass spectrometry-based quantitation assays that are capable of trace level analysis.
  • Analyzing impurities and/or degradants using LC-MS, with accurate mass, and MS/MS for the characterization and assignment of unknown chemical structures.
  • Operation and trouble shooting of a variety of modern Thermo-Fisher Scientific mass spectrometers including data analysis with Xcalibur.
  • Utilizing Python, R, and MATLAB languages for data analysis and visualization (six (6) months of experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Expansion of skills in techniques beyond the primary expertise of mass spectrometry, such as NMR, to become a more complete structure elucidation scientist.
