About The Position

The Translational Omics Group at PNNL is seeking a passionate and innovative Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our multidisciplinary and creative team dedicated to revolutionizing mass spectrometry-based technologies. In this exciting position, you will have the opportunity to develop groundbreaking methodologies to precisely define macromolecular structures. You’ll also develop high-resolution gas-phase separation techniques, paving the way for enhanced identification and characterization of small molecules. You will also develop multi-dimensional ultra-high-resolution gas-phase separations that boost peak capacity, limit of detection, and dynamic range—successfully tackling complex biological challenges that were once out of reach! Located at the beautiful PNNL campus in Richland, Washington, this on-site role offers a unique chance to utilize cutting-edge mass spectrometry capabilities.

Requirements

  • PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
  • Expertise in bioanalytical mass spectrometry—areas like omics applications (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, glycomics), ion mobility, native mass spectrometry, etc.
  • Lead independent research and take initiatives, driving projects to success.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Collaborative spirit and a desire to learn and develop new concepts and research techniques.
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and execute routine research tasks independently.
  • Strong organization and communication skills are needed to work efficiently in a team environment and to effectively demonstrate project success.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Pharmacy, or closely related fields.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: multi-dimensional separations, ion mobility spectrometry approaches, and other gas-phase ion manipulation techniques.
  • Breadth of relevant technical knowledge in mass spectrometry.
  • Experience with SIMION; designing and constructing ion optics is a plus.
