About The Position

This position, Senior Scientist II Analytical Chemist/Biochemist works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Core Lab Biomolecular group. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in a biology or chemistry-related field, or A Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related science field with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience performing laboratory tests on proteins and other biological molecules.
  • Experience developing, improving, or troubleshooting lab testing methods and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and scientific data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret scientific data and communicate results clearly.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and collaborate across different departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience with standard bioanalytical methods used to characterize protein biomolecules is required.
  • Past demonstration of an ability to develop or optimize analytical methods to new applications and troubleshoot instrumentation or method problems when they occur is also a requirement.
  • Knowledge of characterization of test method APCs, as well as execution of analytical methods under established operating procedures would benefit the candidate’s integration into expected work activities.
  • Experience with biologics structure-to-function analysis and analytical techniques applied in enzymology would also be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Run laboratory tests and experiments on proteins and other biological materials.
  • Use a variety of scientific tools and techniques to measure how these materials perform and behave.
  • Develop, improve, and troubleshoot testing methods when issues arise.
  • Work closely with scientists and other teams involved in creating new products.
  • Analyze test results, identify trends or problems, and recommend next steps.
  • Clearly explain findings through reports, presentations, and discussions.
  • Keep accurate and organized records of all laboratory work.
  • Work independently and manage multiple experiments at the same time.
