About The Position

The Center for Materials Science & Engineering (CMSE) is seeking a Senior Project Scientist / Engineer who, as an individual contributor, will apply engineering science, materials science, and related physical-chemistry to support late-stage product development and global manufacturing. Projects typically involve technical investigation, risk assessment, physical characterization, and product-process analysis for our human-health pharmaceutical and bio-sterile products. The Senior Project Scientist / Engineer represents the CMSE on global manufacturing project teams (that often include representatives from Technical Operations, Quality, and partner Analytical Science groups) and/or on product development teams (including process engineering, analytical sciences, and regulatory colleagues) leading new product filings. The individual is both a technical leader and effective collaborator who provides consulting, laboratory analyses of materials (raw, intermediate, final product, packaging & device, and process) and scaled-down process experimentation. The CMSE lab includes state-of-the-art imaging, structural, spectroscopic (chemical/physical), mechanical testing, and many other techniques, for complex fluids, powders, surfaces, functional materials, packaging, and combination products / medical devices. The Senior Project Scientist / Engineer aims to understand the relationship between material structure, function, and processing across a very wide range of product formulation and process scenarios; however, the Senior Project Scientist / Engineer also seeks deep niche expertise and technology development (for specific material / formulation areas, unit operations, characterization, and/or modeling approaches) in order to strengthen the CMSE, which is an interdisciplinary mix of engineers, materials scientists, physicists, and chemists. Strength in problem solving, applied experimental research, and communication skills is valuable.
