Senior Scientist, Clinical Flow Cytometry

Bristol Myers Squibb•Princeton, NJ
•$123,670 - $149,855

About The Position

The Clinical Flow Cytometry team within Translational Sciences and Precision Medicine is seeking a Senior Scientist to develop and deliver flow cytometry-based biomarker assays supporting all phases of clinical development at Bristol Myers Squibb. The team’s data inform decisions on dose optimization, indication prioritization, patient selection, and potential drug combinations. This laboratory-based role leads assay design, development, qualification or validation, and execution for assigned programs across therapeutic areas. The Senior Scientist may lead or support assay transfers to external laboratories and works independently on defined deliverables, with limited supervision on complex or novel challenges. The position is a technical point of contact, collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, and mentors junior scientists.

Requirements

  • PhD, MS, or BSc in biological sciences, immunology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant post-graduate experience with a PhD, 5 years with an MS, or 7 years with a BSc, including substantial flow cytometry work such as high-parameter immunophenotyping, receptor occupancy, or functional assays.
  • Record of scientific contribution, such as publications, presentations, patents, or validated methods.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in high-parameter flow cytometry assay design, instrument optimization, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with FlowJo, FCS Express, OMIQ, or comparable analysis software.
  • Working knowledge of fit-for-purpose qualification and validation of biomarker assays for clinical trials.
  • Ability to write clear, rigorous procedures, protocols, reports, and scientific presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver with limited supervision in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and record-keeping skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Biopharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Solid scientific knowledge of immunology.
  • Hands-on experience with spectral or other high-parameter flow cytometry platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, optimization, qualification or validation, and execution of novel, fit-for-purpose flow cytometry assays for clinical biomarker studies, including substantial hands-on laboratory work.
  • Design next experiments and recommend assay approaches suited to program objectives and development stage.
  • Apply principles of panel design, reagent selection, instrument setup, and performance characterization; refine protocols and methods as needed.
  • Perform or oversee clinical sample analysis to established quality standards.
  • Contribute to decisions about using internal laboratories, external laboratories, or both.
  • Evaluate, implement, and troubleshoot new flow cytometry methods, technologies, and platforms.
  • Analyze and interpret complex flow cytometry data and recommend next steps to clinical and translational teams.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for panel design, assay development, and data interpretation on assigned programs.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders on assay requirements, endpoints, timelines, data delivery, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead or support assay transfer to external laboratories, providing scientific oversight, troubleshooting, and quality review of their data.
  • Manage concurrent assignments, prioritize timely delivery, and escalate technical and operational risks as appropriate.
  • Author and review method procedures, validation protocols and reports, study documentation, and technical summaries; present results in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Mentor and train junior scientists on assays, instruments, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, traceable records and promote scientific rigor, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Benefits

  • Wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings, subject to applicable plan terms and eligibility.
  • U.S.-based exempt employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, and 11 paid company holidays each year.
  • Non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico receive 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires, subject to manager approval, 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.
  • Depending on eligibility, additional time-off benefits may include paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs.
  • Eligible employees enjoy an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
  • May be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities.
