Senior Scientist 1, Neuroscience

Eikon TherapeuticsNew York, NY
$143,000 - $173,250

About The Position

Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Scientist I to join our Neuroscience research team. In this role, you will be a key contributor to our efforts to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets for Parkinson’s disease. You will develop and apply complex cellular models and biochemical and cell-based assays to advance target validation and deepen our understanding of disease-relevant mechanisms. This is a highly collaborative, laboratory-focused role with the opportunity to work across disciplines and research sites, partnering with cellular and molecular biologists, in vivo pharmacologists, medicinal chemists, and other scientific colleagues to advance our neuroscience research programs.

Requirements

  • Postdoc Fellowship plus 2 years of relevant experience or Ph.D. plus 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree plus 14 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree plus 16 years of relevant experience in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Highly proficient in cell culture techniques, including primary neurons and glia.
  • Proficiency with standard cell biology, biochemistry, enzymology, and neuroscience techniques, including confocal microscopy/high-content imaging, protein detection and quantification (such as ELISA and MSD), and enzyme kinetic assays.
  • Extensive bench research experience and enjoyment of a laboratory-focused role in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to design, execute, and interpret experiments independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills paired with a strong work ethic.

Nice To Haves

  • An interest in Parkinson’s disease and neurodegenerative biology, and in applying your expertise to drug discovery, will position you well for success in this role.
  • Experience in iPSC-derived cells and/or complex co-culture model systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support target validation and mechanism-of-action (MOA) assay development activities.
  • Execute in vitro experiments in cell lines, primary neurons, iPSC-derived neurons, and glia culture.
  • Build and execute biochemical and cell-based assays to support novel Parkinson’s disease target validation.
  • Collaborate with and support cellular and molecular biologists, in vivo pharmacologists, and medicinal chemists across research sites.
  • Support the training and guidance of junior research associates and interns, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in Parkinson’s disease research by attending relevant conferences and workshops.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research publications, presentations, and grant proposals, showcasing the team’s contributions to the field.
  • Maintain organized and comprehensive records of experiments, results, and protocols in adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold a culture of safety by strictly following laboratory protocols and promoting best practices in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
