About The Position

Columbia Hospitality is seeking a Senior Sales Manager for The SOMM Hotel & Spa. This role is for a proactive "hunter" responsible for generating new business opportunities through proactive sales efforts, networking, and relationship development. The position focuses on achieving revenue goals through a sales plan and strategy, client development, managing key relationships, networking, and identifying new target markets. The ideal candidate will dedicate the majority of their selling time to proactive business development, including cold calling, outside sales appointments, networking events, referrals, and strategic prospecting. This role also involves maintaining accurate records, reporting progress, soliciting new business, participating in events, conducting site inspections, responding to RFPs, and understanding client negotiations and contractual language. The Senior Sales Manager will implement sales plans to maximize market share and create a seamless client experience from sales to event management. General responsibilities include achieving goals, maximizing productivity, forecasting revenue, developing inter-departmental relationships, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of hospitality sales experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in sales and/or event management with extensive sales and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated success generating new business through proactive prospecting and relationship development.
  • Naturally curious with the ability to identify opportunities others overlook and turn introductions into lasting business partnerships.
  • Comfortable spending significant time outside the office meeting clients, attending networking events, entertaining prospects, and representing the hotel within the community.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to accurately read/write business correspondence effectively.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions or approaches.
  • Strong personal skills, including time management, information analysis, problem-solving, planning and organizing, decision making, and delivery of results.
  • Strong interpersonal influence skills, including coaching, motivating, delegating, and relationship-building.
  • Demonstrates a strong grasp of mathematical operations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all applicable units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Analytical mindset and can utilize mathematical skills to assess data, identify trends, and draw meaningful insights that drive strategy and decision-making.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office; Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in conducting client research, gathering relevant information, and staying updated on industry trends and developments.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to read a profit & loss statement.
  • Ability to present to senior management and clients in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to travel (including air or car, hotel overnight stays, and client entertainment.)

Responsibilities

  • Generate new business opportunities through proactive sales efforts, networking, and relationship development.
  • Dedicate the majority of selling time to proactive business development, including cold calling, outside sales appointments, networking events, referrals, and strategic prospecting.
  • Achieve revenue goals through a sales plan and strategy, client development, managing key relationships, networking, and identifying new target markets.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of activities and relevant client contact information within the Sales & Events database.
  • Report weekly progress against proactive selling metrics including prospecting activity, outside sales appointments, networking, lead generation, site inspections, proposals, and new business production.
  • Solicit and secure new business through outside sales calls, prospecting campaigns, referrals, networking, community involvement, and strategic relationship building.
  • Participate in trade shows, promotional events, and industry events.
  • Conduct site inspections and client presentations.
  • Respond to inbound RFPs (requests for proposals) within 24 hours.
  • Engage in client negotiations, closing tactics, and understanding contractual language.
  • Differentiate from the competition and bring value to potential customers.
  • Implement sales plan based on demand segments to maximize market share.
  • Create a seamless experience for the client from sales to event management.
  • Achieve assigned goals and objectives.
  • Maximize efficiencies for time management and productivity.
  • Responsible for forecasting revenue of assigned groups.
  • Develop and maintain favorable working relationships and open communication with all departments.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with clients.
  • Comply with accounting standards (deposits, direct billing, and pre-payment).
  • Confirm accurate revenue posting and client billing.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of all applicable standards, policies and procedures.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Achieve client sentiment goals.
  • Adhere to Columbia Hospitality Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform additional job functions as assigned based on the property’s business needs.
