About The Position

Altana is hiring a Senior Sales Engineer to serve as the technical lead for its work with logistics service providers and customs brokers. The role supports a product portfolio spanning transaction screening, shared product catalog, duty calculation, post-entry audit, and agentic entry writing. The Sales Engineer owns the technical work that advances deals from initial conversations to signed orders, including product demonstrations, solution design, architecture discussions, and customer-facing technical narratives. The role partners closely with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Implementation, while bringing customer perspectives to product and engineering teams. It involves mapping customers’ current operational workflows to future workflows on Altana, explaining integration paths, and supporting product development. The role is based in New York or Washington, DC, with hybrid work flexibility.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in pre-sales engineering, solutions consulting, or solution architecture selling technical software into trade, customs, logistics, or enterprise supply chain.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and executive audiences.
  • A track record of designing current-state to future-state workflows for complex, multi-stakeholder operational processes.
  • Working fluency in systems architecture and integration, including APIs, EDI, file-based transfer, and data modeling, with the ability to engage credibly with customer IT teams.
  • Ability to connect customers’ specific business problems with Altana’s solutions.
  • Passion for tackling complex challenges in global trade.

Nice To Haves

  • Customs brokerage or freight forwarding operations experience, including familiarity with ABI, CargoWise, NetCHB, or HTS classification workflows.
  • Ability to prototype rough working artifacts using modern AI tooling, notebooks, or low-code tools and put them in front of prospects to shorten the feature feedback loop.
  • Experience capturing voice of customer in a structured way and translating it into product input, primarily from prospects and secondarily from live accounts.
  • Exposure to agentic or AI-assisted automation in a live operational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mastery of the full Altana product surface area and deliver demonstrations to brokerage operations staff, IT leaders, and executive buyers.
  • Design solutions for complex customer environments, map current-state workflows to future-state workflows on Altana, and document the differences in customer-recognizable terms.
  • Explain the platform’s technical architecture, including data models, APIs, EDI and file-based integration patterns, and how Altana connects with logistics providers’ existing systems.
  • Bridge the commercial and product organizations by translating field realities into product input and product direction into field-ready positioning.
  • Support sales processes with new and existing customers in the customs and trade space, identifying use cases that address stakeholder needs.
  • Contribute to product development in collaboration with product managers, data scientists, engineers, and customer-facing stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Flexible Time Off policy.
