About The Position

Fresche Solutions is hiring a Senior RPG Programmer/Analyst to lead the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of business-critical IBM i applications. The role supports clients in modernizing legacy systems and creating scalable, modern ILE solutions, while balancing the reliability of existing systems with contemporary efficiency. The position is remote from anywhere in North America and involves both independent work and collaboration with a technical team and clients across the full project lifecycle. The role may include guiding a small technical team and conducting code reviews.

Requirements

• Extensive, demonstrated experience with the IBM i (iSeries / AS/400) platform.
• Business understanding of operations such as distribution, manufacturing, finance, or insurance, and the ability to identify solutions that address business needs.
• Advanced RPG skills across RPG forms, especially RPGLE, including free-form syntax and embedded SQL.
• Expert-level DB2 application programming and database design.
• Strong command of ILE modules, service programs, and binding directories.
• Comfort with structured deployment and version control processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with business stakeholders and developers.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with IBM i ERP systems such as Infor LX, BPCS, Infor XA, MAPICS, PRMS, JDE, Frontier, or HFA.
• Background in distribution, manufacturing, finance, or insurance applications.
• Familiarity with RDi or other Eclipse-based IDEs.
• Git or SVN experience in an IBM i environment.
• Experience with impact analysis tools.
• Integration experience with APIs, JSON, XML, and tools such as GoAnywhere.

Responsibilities

• Partner with clients to resolve application issues, identify business needs, and deliver solutions across the full project lifecycle.
• Analyze, design, code, and test applications using RPG and SQL across all versions.
• Protect application integrity through unit, integration, smoke, and other testing phases.
• Document system architecture for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Guide a small technical team when needed and lead code reviews for database and logic changes.
• Help clients modernize legacy applications into scalable ILE solutions.
