About The Position

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is seeking a Senior Routing Specialist to support their office in Chicago, IL. This role is designated as ‘Remote/Teleworker’, meaning the primary work location will be from home. HPE Networking is looking for a highly skilled and customer-focused Technical Solutions Architect (TSA) to act as a technical leader and trusted advisor for service providers, enterprise customers, and strategic partners. The TSA will provide deep technical expertise in WAN routing, network infrastructure architecture, optical transport, data center connectivity, and emerging networking technologies. This position will support sales engagements, solution development, customer workshops, proof-of-concepts, and technical enablement activities. The ideal candidate should possess strong networking fundamentals combined with hands-on experience in architecture and design across WAN, enterprise edge, optical transport, data center interconnect, and network automation technologies. The TSA will collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Professional Services, and partner organizations to create end-to-end solutions that align with customer business and technical requirements.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience with Juniper MX, PTX, and ACX platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Service Provider WAN architectures, Enterprise WAN and edge routing, Carrier Ethernet services, Internet peering and transit designs, and Network resiliency and high-availability architectures.
  • Expert-level knowledge of BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF, RSVP-TE and Segment Routing concepts, L2VPN and L3VPN services, and EVPN services.
  • General knowledge and experience supporting Data Center Interconnect (DCI), DWDM optical transport networks, Metro and long-haul transport architectures, and Layer 1 transport and wavelength services.
  • Working knowledge of Passive Optical Networking (PON), Fiber access architectures, Broadband access technologies, and Enterprise access technologies.
  • Experience with network automation frameworks and operational tooling.
  • General knowledge of Python, REST APIs, NETCONF/YANG, Ansible, Git-based workflows, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
  • Experience automating network configuration, validation, and operational workflows.
  • 8+ years of experience in networking architecture, systems engineering, consulting, or related technical roles.
  • Proven ability to engage directly with customer architects, network engineering teams, technical decision-makers, and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical discussions and influence architectural decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, customer-facing environment.
  • Strong ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical architectures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EVPN/VXLAN data center fabric architectures.
  • Understanding of modern data center networking and cloud connectivity models.
  • Experience with network telemetry, observability, and network assurance platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI infrastructure networking requirements and high-performance data center architectures.
  • Knowledge of security integration technologies, network segmentation, and policy-based networking.
  • Experience working with service providers, telecommunications organizations, large enterprises, or strategic technology partners.
  • Relevant industry certifications are preferred, including: JNCIP-SP, JNCIE-SP, JNCIP-ENT, CCNP Service Provider, CCIE Service Provider, CCNP Enterprise, CCIE Enterprise, MEF Carrier Ethernet certifications, and relevant network automation or cloud networking certifications. Equivalent technical experience and certifications may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for HPE Networking routing and infrastructure solutions.
  • Design and validate scalable WAN, enterprise edge, and data center interconnect architectures.
  • Provide technical leadership during customer briefings, workshops, proof-of-concepts, and strategic design discussions.
  • Develop reference architectures, solution designs, deployment guidance, and networking best practices.
  • Partner with account teams to understand customer requirements and align technical solutions with business outcomes.
  • Support partner and field enablement through technical presentations, demonstrations, workshops, and training.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Professional Services, and Sales to influence product direction and drive customer success.
  • Support competitive positioning and technical differentiation of HPE Networking solutions.
  • Support large-scale networking opportunities from initial discovery through technical validation and deployment planning.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for both technical and executive audiences.
