About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to lead the software design and delivery of robotic automation systems from early concept through commissioning. In this role you will own major software subsystems, set the technical approach for individual projects, and guide other engineers while remaining hands-on in C#, motion planning, machine vision, and sensor integration. This position is a strong fit for an experienced engineer who wants ownership of complete robotic systems and enjoys helping other engineers grow while solving challenging manufacturing and industrial problems. The Company: Viable Engineering Solutions is a world-class concept-to-completion center for the industrial market. We take Research and Development to the next level providing rapid prototyping, robotics, automation, and non-destructive testing solutions in our state-of-the-art concept-to-completion facility. We are located in Orlando in the heart of the Central Florida Research Park. Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer Statement: Viable Engineering Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer and takes affirmative action to employ and advance qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability. In compliance with federal law, we encourage qualified individuals with disabilities and protected veterans to apply. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request. As a federal contractor, Viable is committed to complying with Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a substantial portion in industrial robotics or automation.
  • Expert-level C# and object-oriented design skills, with a record of building and maintaining production applications.
  • Deep experience with .NET, Dependency Injection, WPF, and MVVM, including making architecture decisions for multi-module applications.
  • Proficiency with Visual Studio, Git, branching strategies, and code review practices.
  • Strong applied mathematics for robotics, including linear algebra, trigonometry, coordinate transformations, and kinematics.
  • Hands-on experience programming and integrating 6-axis industrial robots (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or similar) in delivered systems.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering motion control, path planning, and collision avoidance features in real-world robotic cells.
  • Practical experience with machine vision and image processing using OpenCV, Cognex, Keyence, or comparable tools, including 3D vision.
  • Track record integrating sensors, PLCs, motion controllers, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading the technical side of small project teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including with customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD/CAM, robotic simulation, or offline programming software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the software design for robotic automation projects, from feasibility study and proof of concept through production deployment and field support.
  • Architect and build maintainable desktop applications in C#, .NET, WPF, and MVVM, including defining module boundaries, interfaces, and test strategy.
  • Lead development of robot communication and control software for Fanuc and other 6-axis industrial robots, including multi-robot and robot-plus-external-axis cells.
  • Design reusable device-integration libraries for cameras, laser profilometers, ultrasonic probes, PLCs, motor controllers, and digital I/O, and establish patterns other engineers can extend.
  • Develop advanced path planning, trajectory generation, collision avoidance, and offline programming capabilities, selecting the right algorithms for accuracy, cycle time, and reliability.
  • Lead implementation of 3D vision and localization solutions, including stereo vision, point-cloud processing, and vision-guided robot correction.
  • Define and own calibration methods for robot, tool, camera, and workpiece frames, and quantify the resulting system accuracy.
  • Plan and run validation testing of sensors, vision systems, and motion algorithms, and turn the results into clear recommendations for the project team.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing on difficult integration problems.
  • Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, estimate software effort, and report technical progress.
  • Lead on-site commissioning and troubleshooting, and drive root-cause analysis when automated systems underperform.
