About The Position

EMS is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Revenue Accountant to oversee the end-to-end revenue accounting process across all company revenue streams, including software, services, project-based implementations, and recurring support agreements. This role serves as the organization's subject matter expert for revenue recognition, contract accounting, billing, and revenue reporting, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and company accounting policies. The Senior Revenue Accountant will partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, Project Management, Operations, and Finance to ensure customer contracts are accurately structured, billed, recognized, and reported. This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with process improvement, financial analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant responsibility for revenue accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of ASC 606 revenue recognition principles.
  • Experience managing recurring revenue, contract-based revenue, and project-based revenue streams.
  • Experience supporting audits and financial reporting processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the revenue recognition process across all revenue streams, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and company accounting policies.
  • Review customer contracts and collaborate with commercial teams to determine appropriate revenue treatment, billing structures, and performance obligations.
  • Prepare and maintain deferred revenue schedules, revenue reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare revenue-related journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing revenue schedules, analyses, and supporting documentation.
  • Manage the financial administration of customer contracts, including new agreements, renewals, amendments, upgrades, downgrades, and terminations.
  • Ensure customer invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual terms.
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success teams to support support-contract renewals, pricing changes, and customer requests.
  • Monitor and resolve billing discrepancies and revenue-related inquiries.
  • Prepare recurring revenue, retention, renewal, backlog, and revenue performance reporting for leadership.
  • Develop and maintain revenue-related KPIs, dashboards, and management reports.
  • Analyze revenue trends and provide insights to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and annual planning activities.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the revenue cycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve contract management, billing workflows, and revenue reporting processes.
  • Maintain revenue-related controls and ensure compliance with internal policies and financial reporting requirements.
  • Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
