We are seeking a Senior Operations Engineer – Resins to join the team responsible for critical resin manufacturing processes. This role operates cross-functionally and reports to the Director of Operations Engineering for Materials. The successful candidate will partner closely with Supply Chain, Materials R&D, and Operations Engineering teams to drive continuous improvement across resin operations. This role will be located in our Sunnyvale, CA headquarters and is full time onsite.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical, Biochemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in chemical production or a similar process manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working at or closely with manufacturing facilities; supplier-facing experience strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier sites as needed (up to ~20% of the time).
  • Solid understanding of process and quality control techniques, including statistical process control (SPC) and advanced quality planning tools.
  • Hands-on training and experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DoE), or Shainin Red X.
  • Experience in supplier quality management or supplier development programs.
  • Working knowledge of chemical regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact with key resin supplier locations.
  • Lead and support projects to implement new products, process and packaging changes, and manufacturing capability improvements in close partnership with the materials development team.
  • Support the implementation of chemical manufacturing processes, instrumentation, and equipment changes at supplier sites — ensuring effectiveness in process engineering and design, and scaling manufacturing efforts for maximum productivity and quality performance.
  • Drive measurable improvements in quality, cost, and lead-time performance with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Apply advanced problem-solving tools and methodologies to consistently meet production targets.
  • Partner with the supply chain team to monitor supplier performance and cultivate strong relationships with Carbon's resin suppliers and distributors.
  • Assess supplier and distributor capabilities — both existing and prospective — to ensure alignment with Carbon's technical, quality, and capacity requirements.
  • Represent and communicate supplier capabilities internally to inform sourcing decisions and production planning.
  • Take an active role in strategic sourcing activities, including identifying and qualifying alternative suppliers for existing and new materials.
  • Engage in preliminary commercial negotiations, evaluate total cost of ownership, and pursue cost reduction opportunities through process improvements, alternate sourcing strategies, and competitive benchmarking.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to identify root causes and implement lasting corrective actions for quality and production issues related to Carbon resins.
  • Design and develop manufacturing processes using advanced quality planning, risk reduction, and audit tools to achieve cost-effectiveness and meet product quality goals.
