About The Position

Wight & Company is seeking a talented Senior Resident Engineer to join their team. This role involves leading construction project delivery teams towards client-defined success, coordinating with stakeholders, analyzing codes and specifications, and supervising field inspections. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with transportation agencies like Chicago DOT, IDOT, or Illinois Tollway, and possess strong leadership and relationship-building skills.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or similar discipline from an accredited college or university
Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois
10+ years’ experience working with Chicago DOT, IDOT, Illinois Tollway, or comparable transportation agencies
Proven ability to lead successful teams, internally and externally
Proven ability to build effective business relationships

Nice To Haves

Certifications, including IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities
Transportation design and constructability review experience is a plus
Experience on transit and/or utility projects is a plus
Coachable and a sense of humor
Comfortable taking initiative and exercising professional judgement

Responsibilities

Lead construction project delivery team towards client-defined success
Coordinate and communicate with various project stakeholders
Analyze applicable codes, standards, and specifications for compliance
Supervise general field inspection of Road and Bridge Construction including measurement, calculation, and reporting of installed quantities
Oversee materials sampling and testing schedules
Monitor and analyze progress of contractor’s work
Maintain various reports
Mentor and lead inspection team
