About The Position

The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) ensures that MCC’s research, programs, and collaborations are responsive to the priorities and needs of the catchment area and contribute to reducing the cancer burden. The COE Office fosters bi‑directional communication between researchers and community members, strengthens outreach efforts, and supports policies that advance cancer prevention and control. The Senior COE Manager leads the operational execution of this mission by overseeing program implementation, integrating in-reach and outreach activities, and ensuring the office’s work is data‑driven, strategically aligned, and community‑responsive. The Senior COE Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of CRTEC and COE. The ideal candidate for this role will have familiarity with research/science as well as strong leadership and management experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters or doctorate degree preferred, with emphasis on public health, epidemiology or behavioral health
  • Experience conducting program evaluations using evidence-based approaches such as the Kirkpatrick model, RE-AIM model, and other evaluative techniques
  • Familiarity with the cancer center support P30 grant guidelines, processes, and expectations
  • 7+ years of related experience in an institutional staff management or community outreach office role with at least 6 years of team management experience required
  • Demonstrated record of successfully managing programs with complex organization
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple ongoing projects with rigorous evaluation.
  • Strong managerial and delegation skills, including rigorous evaluation of performance and the identification of team strengths and opportunities for growth.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage and meet multiple, competing deadlines.
  • Strong communications skills, including communicating scientific concepts to staff, internal and external stakeholders, and community members.
  • Strategic acumen with ability to adapt and suggest programs to meet Center and Institutional priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Uses evidence-based and data-driven approaches to evaluate ongoing office activities/programs and improve office processes/programs.
  • Conducts literature searches and can make recommendations on how to adapt community outreach programs based on findings.
  • Makes survey data management and visualization recommendations.
  • Reports the impact of office activities on influencing research priorities, trial accrual, and changes in knowledge in catchment area, etc.
  • Facilitates integration of in-reach and outreach efforts across the Cancer Center.
  • Assists in writing, reviewing, and editing of OCOE grant proposals for submission to government agencies, foundations, and not-for-profit organizations.
  • Benchmarks OCOE activities against other emerging and NCI-designated cancer centers.
  • Works with Cancer Center leadership to identify strategies to engage faculty, trainees, and community members in office programming.
  • Works with Cancer Center and Office Leadership to identify and actively pursue potential funding for in-reach and outreach programming.
  • Manages a team of outreach coordinators and a portfolio of community outreach programs.
  • Supports management of office’s external and internal stakeholder involvement, including the MCC Research Advisory Council (RAC), the MCC Community Advisory Board (CAB), and the New York-Presbyterian Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC).
  • Manages and oversees an in-reach coordinator who is responsible for the day-to-day running off all in-reach activities inclusive of engagement of the Research Advisory Council (RAC), COE faculty Liaisons, and the COE Speaker’s Bureau.
  • Oversees administrative support for COE pilot award program.
  • Supports management of RAC-led initiatives.
  • Manage a team of outreach and in-reach coordinators, ensuring appropriate integration of all office efforts, compliance with reporting, and career development of the team.
  • Partners with finance team and coordinators to propose and maintain accurate budgets, including conducting quarterly budgetary reviews and tracking effort against project estimates/budgets.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining office standard operating procedures (SOP) manuals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
