About The Position

The Center for Epilepsy and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (ENDD) is committed to developing therapeutic approaches for genetic neurodevelopmental disorders involving STXBP1 and SynGAP1. ENDD is seeking a Senior Research Investigator to provide scientific leadership to this fast-paced, collaborative research program. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator to conceptualize, develop and execute rigorous experimental studies that integrate molecular, cellular, and whole animal approaches to advance preclinical studies in a scalable, high-throughput manner. This position is intended for an experienced scientist who can independently design high-impact experiments, assess feasibility and timelines for complex projects, oversee laboratory workflows, train junior scientists, and drive research products from concept through implementation, analysis, publication, and presentation. Requirements

  • Ph.D in Neuroscience or neuro related field and 5-7+ years of postdoctoral experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Expertise in a wide-ranging toolkit of modern neuroscience techniques and general molecular biology, including but not limited to, organotypic slice culture, mouse brain histology, advanced imaging techniques (i.e. 2-photon imaging) of the brain, electrophysiology, mouse genetics, quantitative western blot and qPCR assays.
  • Advanced proficiency in cell culture, specifically primary mouse neurons and astrocytes (including their isolation) and IPSC-derived neurons.
  • Lead and design experiments involving the use of CRISPR and CRISPRa for gene knockout or activation in IPSC neurons. Must be familiar with CRISPR-based technologies and emerging advances.
  • Lead and design experiments involving neuronal calcium imaging, both dye-based and using genetically-encoded calcium sensors.
  • Design and employ semi-automated, high-throughput imaging and analysis (including calcium imaging).
  • Design, clone, quality control and produce high quality AAV and lentivirus constructs.
  • Must be comfortable with basic mouse husbandry, surgical techniques (i.e. PFA perfusion) and downstream tissue processing (i.e. brain dissection).
  • Mentor and oversee more junior scientists in the lab.
  • Lead or assist the PI in securing grants and funding opportunities.
  • Must work with a sense of urgency and dedication to the project.
