Senior Research Analyst, Volatility Trading

PEAK6•New York City, NY

About The Position

PEAK6 Capital Management is seeking a seasoned, alpha-minded Senior Research Analyst to join its growing volatility trading desk. The analyst will originate differentiated, high-conviction ideas and combine quantitative and fundamental analysis to inform trading decisions. The role translates complex information into distributions of possible outcomes around catalysts and themes, and owns coverage from thesis formation and variant-view research through pitching ideas to portfolio managers and traders, structuring trades, and monitoring them through their lifecycle. It offers autonomy across multiple independent teams and is suited to an experienced analyst seeking to express fundamental insights through options and volatility. The position is based in PEAK6’s New York City office, with a hybrid work arrangement allowing remote work up to two days per week. PEAK6 Capital Management is a proprietary options trading firm that has provided liquidity to options markets for more than 25 years. Its approach combines financial expertise, risk management, proprietary technology, and data-centric methods. The compensation package includes a base salary range of $158,620–$198,275 and may include a discretionary annual bonus. Benefits include healthcare, competitive paid time off, a 401(k) match, parental leave, HSA contribution matching, a paid Calm subscription, external learning benefits, and tuition reimbursement. Base pay may vary with job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and office location.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of proven, accomplished coverage in a sector.
  • Prior buy-side experience, such as proprietary trading, hedge fund, market-maker, or long-short experience, is strongly preferred, along with a track record of generating and monetizing differentiated ideas.
  • A strong track record of covering trades from thesis formation through sizing, structuring, and lifecycle management, rather than only producing published research.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and descriptive statistics skills, with sound quantitative judgment and comfort synthesizing incomplete information.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication; confidence pitching succinctly to portfolio managers and traders; and strong relationship-building skills.

Nice To Haves

  • TMT sector expertise is preferred, though sector coverage is flexible.
  • Familiarity with Claude Code, multi-agent systems, or similar research and data-analysis tools; ability to work with unstructured datasets and contribute to AI-driven research systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of options pricing and Greeks, and ability to express a fundamental view with a defined magnitude and timing of move.

Responsibilities

  • Own sector coverage end-to-end and serve as the desk’s go-to expert, carrying coverage from thesis formation through the trade lifecycle.
  • Translate fundamental analysis into distributions of possible outcomes rather than a single price target, forecasting contingent events around idiosyncratic, sector, and thematic catalysts.
  • Work with traders to structure options expressions of investment views, monitor positions through their lifecycle, and conduct post-event reviews.
  • Pitch differentiated, non-consensus ideas to portfolio managers and traders, explaining consensus views, why they may be wrong, the catalyst path, and what could invalidate the trade.
  • Conduct primary research through management meetings, industry conferences, expert calls, and channel checks.
  • Turn unstructured and alternative data into tradable signals.
