Senior Requirements Engineer- MBSE

Peraton•Colorado Springs, CO

About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Senior Requirements Engineer to support advanced mission planning, digital engineering, and command-and-control capabilities for the U.S. Government’s space communications enterprise. The role applies modern model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices to translate mission needs into precise, traceable, and verifiable technical requirements across a complex, multi-system environment. The engineer works closely with system integrators, architects, and MBSE teams to define, refine, and document mission planning and component-level specifications, and contributes to authoritative digital engineering artifacts that guide system design and implementation.

Requirements

  • An associate degree and 10+ years of experience in a systems engineering-related field; or a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cloud Computing, or a related field and 8+ years of related experience; or a master’s degree in one of those fields or a related field and 6+ years of related experience; or a Ph.D. and 3+ years of experience. Four additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Must possess at least a Secret clearance, have the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI, and maintain the clearance.
  • Experience performing requirements engineering or systems engineering in a complex software or system-of-systems environment.
  • Ability to derive, decompose, and document system and component requirements based on mission needs, architecture definitions, or MBSE models.
  • Experience reviewing or developing system specifications, interface definitions, or digital engineering artifacts.
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools or MBSE modeling environments used to capture requirement behavior, architecture, or traceability.
  • Experience supporting verification planning, including creating requirement verification methods, acceptance criteria, or verification artifacts.
  • Ability to interpret system models, behavior diagrams, and architecture views to ensure alignment between requirements and system representation.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, architecture, and integration teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex requirements and support disciplined configuration control and traceability.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide feedback, clarification, and refinement of the Mission Planning Specification in coordination with the System Integrator and architecture teams.
  • Derive component-level specifications from mission-level requirements and behaviors represented in the MBSE model.
  • Ensure requirements are captured, traceable, and aligned with system architecture, interfaces, and model behavior.
  • Support creation of verification artifacts for mission planning and component-level requirements, including verifiable acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with MBSE practitioners to validate that system behavior, interfaces, and architectures accurately reflect requirement intent.
  • Participate in technical reviews, requirement walkthroughs, and traceability assessments across engineering disciplines.

Benefits

  • Heavily subsidized employee benefits coverage for the employee and dependents.
  • 25 days of PTO accrued annually, up to a generous PTO cap.
