Senior Reliability Technician

WaterBridge•Pecos, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Reliability Technician improves the reliability, availability, and performance of variable frequency drive (VFD) equipment across WaterBridge facilities and infrastructure. The role combines hands-on field diagnostics with data-driven analysis to reduce unplanned downtime, extend equipment life, and continuously improve maintenance and reliability practices. It consolidates responsibilities associated with field technician, VFD technician, analyst, and reliability specialist roles. This is a field-based position located in Pecos, Texas, with regular site presence and travel to field environments. The role may involve outdoor industrial conditions, noise, heights, and confined spaces. The expected schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, with occasional off-hours support and overtime as required.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on troubleshooting experience with low- and medium-voltage drives.
  • Expert understanding of drive fundamentals, including rectifier and DC bus behavior, IGBTs, and PWM.
  • Ability to read a fault log and distinguish supply-side problems from load-side problems.
  • Understanding of Modbus and Ethernet/IP and how drives connect to SCADA for remote monitoring and alarms.
  • Understanding of constant- and variable-torque applications.
  • Understanding of enclosure cooling, dust ingress, and cooling-fan and heat-sink wear.
  • Familiarity with reliability methodologies such as RCFA, RCM, FMEA, 5 Whys, and Fishbone.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret equipment and process data to identify reliability trends.
  • Ability to work in and travel to field environments.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical findings into actionable, understandable recommendations for cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Oilfield or water-handling experience is strongly preferred.
  • Manufacturer-specific experience, particularly with Yaskawa, is preferred.
  • Experience with CMMS/EAM platforms such as SAP PM or Maximo and reliability software tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with affinity laws is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and analyze VFD equipment performance.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis on equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Use condition-monitoring techniques to identify early signs of equipment degradation.
  • Use the SCADA platform and available AI tools to trend and monitor VFD parameters.
  • Conduct field inspections and walk-downs to identify reliability risks and integrity issues.
  • Serve as a special-projects rover for ad hoc I&E and VFD initiatives.
  • Use the CMMS program and work orders to improve failure coding and closeout quality, analyze work-order history, and validate asset data feeding work orders.
  • Support and continuously improve the reliability program, including predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance optimization, and reliability-centered maintenance practices through work-order scheduling and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Participate in Management of Change reviews for equipment modifications, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Lead field support during VFD startups (PSSRs), shutdowns, turnarounds, and commissioning activities.
  • Partner with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and implement solutions.
  • Partner with internal I&E stakeholders and vendors during installation, teardowns, and repairs.
  • Support spare-parts strategy and criticality assessments for rotating-equipment assets.
  • Work cross-functionally with maintenance and operations to prioritize and close reliability-improvement actions.
  • Mentor junior technicians on reliability best practices and diagnostic techniques.
  • Contribute to reliability standards, procedures, and best-practice documentation across sites.
