About The Position

Level is a learning technology company that creates engaging, standards-aligned practice experiences for students and tools for educators and parents. The Senior Release QA Analyst is a senior-level individual contributor on a small, fast-moving team, responsible for release quality and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations about whether builds are ready to ship. The role works closely with Engineering, Product, Support, and other cross-functional teams to make releases safer and faster over time. The analyst is expected to determine what and how to test, independently resolve issues, and help prevent their recurrence.

Requirements

• Several years of QA experience, with a track record of owning release or regression testing for a production product.
• Strong test design skills, including the ability to create a risk-based test plan for a loosely defined release without a specification for every test case.
• Hands-on experience with test automation and CI/CD pipelines, such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium, and GitHub Actions or similar.
• Fluency with defect tracking and test management tools, and experience with API testing.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical problems to non-technical audiences.
• A proactive, self-driven approach, including asking for help early and taking initiative on improvements.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a SaaS or ed tech environment.
• Accessibility testing experience.
• Experience mentoring junior QA staff.

Responsibilities

• Own release-readiness testing end to end, including test planning, regression testing, smoke testing, and post-deploy verification.
• Run go/no-go checks and provide release owners with a clear, evidence-based quality recommendation.
• Resolve release issues independently and prevent recurrence through root-cause analysis and additional test coverage.
• Report on release quality using defect escape rate, regression pass rate, and release cycle time.
• Lead small projects, such as automating a regression suite or improving the release checklist, including running meetings and communicating with relevant parties.
• Proactively identify and address problems that slow the team down, and prioritize across competing releases and tasks.
• Build consensus and resolve conflicts about release timing, defect severity, and testing scope.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, Support, and other cross-functional teams to deliver releases.
• Contribute to recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring, including interviewing junior-to-mid-level QA candidates and providing specific hire/no-hire feedback.
