About The Position

Diamond Infrastructure Solutions is seeking our next Senior Relay Technician to help support St. Charles Operations in Hahnville, LA. This will be a Diamond Infrastructure Solutions Role in the SIM department as SCO. A Senior Relay Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning of protective relaying and associated electrical control systems used in power generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial facilities. This role is aligned to the Diamond Infrastructure Solutions (“Diamond Infra”) company and will be seconded from Dow to Diamond Infrastructure Solutions until January 1, 2027. At that time, the role will become directly aligned to the Diamond Infrastructure Solutions Company.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years of related industry experience.
  • Current, valid US driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of current transformers (CT) and voltage/potential transformers (VT/PT) circuits and advanced relaying circuits.
  • Working knowledge on relay testing (electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor).
  • Knowledge of micro-processor relays.
  • Must possess a TWIC card or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the U.S. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of substation configurations (Ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, Main-Tie-Main, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of the Electrical Code.
  • Must be comfortable and competent to work with energized control and protection circuits (120Vac/125VDC).
  • Knowledge or E-Tap or Power Modelling tools is a benefit
  • Proficiency with relay test equipment and software such as Omicron, Doble, Megger, and similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, calibrate, and maintain protective relays.
  • Perform relay commissioning and acceptance testing on new electrical equipment and systems.
  • Lead relay upgrade projects by replacing obsolete/outdated relays with their respective new relays.
  • Troubleshoot relay mis-operations, nuisance trips, and control system issues.
  • Conduct routine preventive and predictive maintenance on relays, meters, CTs, PTs, and associated equipment.
  • Review and verify relay settings, logic diagrams, schematics, and protection coordination studies.
  • Download, analyze, and interpret event records, oscillography files, and fault reports.
  • Perform system functional testing, including trip and close circuits, interlocks, alarms, and communications.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, test reports, settings files, and as-built documentation.
  • Support outage planning and execution activities related to protection and control systems.
  • Assist engineering personnel with system upgrades, modifications, and root cause investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety procedures, RED TAG MASTER requirements, and company standards.
