About The Position

CIBC's Public Sector and Not-for-Profit Group (PSG) is a specialized team of professionals focused exclusively on providing comprehensive financial solutions to public sector and not-for-profit organizations across Canada. Our clients include local and national not-for-profit organizations and registered charities, hospitals, universities, colleges, municipalities, school boards, electricity distributors and other government-funded entities. The position will be based in Halifax within the PSG team, where it has a strong commitment to public sector and not-for-profit organizations. This role is an ideal choice for experienced candidates with highly developed business credit management skills, a depth of experience in working with commercial banking clients and a passion for working in a client-centric environment that aligns to a strong performance culture. As a Senior Relationship Manager, you will join CIBC to manage and grow a portfolio of commercial banking clients by proactively developing new business opportunities in the community and ensuring clients’ day-to-day banking needs are being met at the highest level. Your role will not be just to be a banker — you will be a banking partner, a true champion for our clients’ businesses, who will be committed to delivering on flexible business solutions, dedicated business expertise and timely business advice to help our clients realize their goals. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Commercial Banking
  • Proven business development skills
  • Advanced knowledge of risk and credit portfolio management
  • Highly developed negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated selling skills including an ability to identify financial advisory opportunities with clients
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and address deteriorating credit issues
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Well-developed client and relationship management skills
  • Ability to engage with purpose to find the right solutions
  • Established profile in the local business community
  • Knowledge of a diverse marketplace and the needs of medium-sized businesses

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of commercial banking clients.
  • Proactively develop new business opportunities in the community.
  • Ensure clients’ day-to-day banking needs are being met at the highest level.
  • Act as a banking partner and champion for clients’ businesses.
  • Deliver flexible business solutions, dedicated business expertise, and timely business advice.
  • Lead business development activities with prospective and key CIBC clients.
  • Represent CIBC in the business community to ensure relationships are developed, solidified and fostered.
  • Engage in marketing and outreach activities to show clients they’re appreciated.
  • Develop new client relationships through business development activities leveraging referral sources, existing clients and centers of influence.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and connect clients with opportunities.
  • Develop a profile in the local business community to leverage into effective working relationships with new and existing clients and internal partners.
  • Structure, negotiate and document credit and cash management arrangements with clients and prospects that meet client needs.
