A Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports people who have Intellectual / Developmental Disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder to increase their independence, and daily living skills and empowers them to obtain their goals. A DSP uses person-centered thinking and approaches to provide daily support to people in decision-making, community integration, and in obtaining paid employment. The Senior DSP assists the Habilitation Specialist or Supervisor in managing the daily operations of their assigned sites, meeting program goals, and overseeing programmatic quality.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent required
  • Proficient computer skills and excellent interpersonal & communication skills required
  • This is an active position and the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, travel on public transportation, bend, stoop, and climb stairs

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months of human service experience, or life experience with persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities, preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Ensure person-centered surveys are completed monthly with the people we support, compile results, and share them with team for program planning
  • In conjunction with the Supervisor, develop site and staff schedules based on the people we support’s interests, goals, support needs, services, and staff coverage
  • Ensure all team members (including DSPs and interns) are following program schedules and are at their assigned sites/activities. Make daily changes to schedule and coverage as needed and notify team members of new assignments
  • If team members are not receptive to assignments/discussions the Senior DSP is responsible for promptly notifying the Supervisor & following the chain of command to address issues that arise
  • Act as point person for groups that are meeting in community sites. DSPs will check in with Senior DSPs when arriving at Community Sites. The Senior DSP will keep the Supervisor informed on the status of all community sites daily & notify immediately if any issues arise. If the Supervisor is not available they will follow the chain of command
  • The Senior DSP is responsible for ensuring team members document services and time and attendance by COB, in the EHR, per funding source regulations (i.e. Medicaid and DQA). This includes verifying the correct # of services/units of time entered in EHR for the people we support and that confirmation is sent to QA by COB
  • Ensure corrections identified by QA are made contemporaneously w/in the timeframe provided by QA
  • Assist the Supervisor in ensuring services are delivered as designed in Staff Action Plans and the people we support receive seamless service provision throughout the day
  • When the Supervisor is not onsite the Senior DSP will ensure the team follows the chain of command for daily operations and in emergencies
  • Work with the Supervisor, team, and Community Development Specialist to identify person-centered monthly vocational and activity goals, submit the Monthly Goal Sheet, and attend the monthly Goals meeting. The Senior DSP will follow CDS protocols and maintain ongoing communication to develop person-centered goals
  • Maintain regular contact with volunteer sites (ex. site cancelations) and update the Volunteer Site list quarterly or as changes arise
  • Ensure compliance with DOL regulations regarding volunteering/interning in the community by checking weekly that each person’s volunteer hours have been entered into EHR & the total per site is being tracked. Coordinate with QA and address with team members if hours are not entered correctly or promptly
  • Collect and record performance data from internship, volunteer, and community sites
  • Report all incidents as mandated by OPWDD and NYS Regulations
  • Maintain updated Monthly Fire Drill logs at each Hub site
  • Work with the Office Manager to order supplies for each site. Maintain an inventory of office supplies & participant supplies
  • Use D365 to submit requisitions, check requests, petty cash, client reimbursements, phone reimbursements, and other necessary requisitions
  • Responsible for metro card distribution, logs, and reconciliation. Responsible for submitting requests promptly & maintaining enough metro cards onsite to support at least 2 weeks of community scheduling. In the absence of the Supervisor pick up metro cards at HQ
  • The Senior DSP is responsible for maintaining balanced petty cash, reconciling petty cash and receipts at least monthly, and maintaining enough petty cash on site to support two weeks of scheduled activities at all times
  • Responsible for working with the team to plan activities and submit petty cash and/or check requests at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure funds are available
  • The Senior DSP is responsible for staying within the program budget for activities and supply orders, and requesting approval from the Supervisor if purchases exceed budget
  • Responsible for ensuring all team members follow program schedules and for making daily changes to schedule and staff coverage assignments as needed
  • Responsible for ensuring all team members document volunteer/internship hours daily in EHR
  • Responsible for ensuring all team members document services and units of attendance daily in EHR and make QA corrections contemporaneously
  • Provide training on daily operations to DSPs and address performance issues with DSPs. Refer issues that cannot be resolved and//or require Corrective Action to the Supervisor & follow the chain of command
  • Responsible for maintaining program Petty Cash and Metro cards
