About The Position

We are seeking to hire a Senior Real Estate Accountant – Generalist for our Legacy Commercial Property business. This role is a new addition to the Legacy Commercial Property accounting team, created to strengthen and support our existing Senior Accountants. Rather than owning one lane, you'll float across both the Finance/GL and Operations sides of the business — focusing on period-end close, development accounting, financial reporting, lease commission accounting, and property tax estimates/appeals, as well as lease administration, tenant billing, and CAM reconciliations. You'll work closely with the Controller and the other Senior Accountants to keep every property, tenant, project, and ledger accurate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (master's preferred)
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred
  • 5-10 years of real estate accounting experience across financial and operations work
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Proficiency with property management and accounting systems (MRI and Sage strongly preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills

Responsibilities

  • Own period-end close with the team, preparing financial statement reporting, along with results analysis
  • Assist with properly calculating/recording property tax accruals
  • Maintain the AR ledger, process write-offs, and support cash application
  • Support the annual budget process and MRI–Sage integration projects
  • Manage accounting side of construction draws – prepare draw requests and reconcile invoices against budgets
  • Track budget vs. actual by project and job cost code; flag variances/reallocations and change orders
  • Partner with the Owner's Representative/Development Manager on draw approvals and budget status
  • Log assessment notices, flag major increases, and manage appeals process with tax consultants
  • Track appeal outcomes and keep consultants informed of property acquisitions/dispositions
  • Provide property tax estimates on new acquisitions and development projects
  • Review lease onboardings, renewals, and terminations in MRI; run the monthly Rent Increase report and issue tenant statements
  • Lead annual CAM reconciliations and estimates; help set up new buildings in MRI
  • Peer-review journal entries and reconciliations from other team members; serve as backup across close functions
  • Help document accounting policies; take on special projects like acquisitions, financing, and lender reporting

Benefits

  • Group medical, dental, vision, and other supplemental policies
  • Flexible Medical Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • 401(k) with 50% match
